U16 Tier 1

Tryout Birth Years: 2002, 2003, 2004

Session 1: Saturday, April 14 @ 8:00 - 9:20 PM

Session 2: Sunday, April 15 @ 8:00 - 9:20 AM

Session 3: Sunday, April 22 @ 9:30 - 11:00 AM

**Please note 2002's are eligible for the U19 team, however all 2002's must attend the U16 tryout.

 

U19 Tier 1

Tryout Birth Years: 1999, 2000, 2001

Session 1: Saturday, April 14 @ 9:30 - 11:00 PM

Session 2: Sunday, April 15 @ 9:30 - 11:00 AM

2018 Vault Summer Training Program

The Connecticut Polar Bears are excited to announce we will once again offer the Vault Summer Training Program for the 2018-19 season. 

The U16 group will be open to birth years 2002-2004. The U19 group will be open to birth years 1999-2002. 

The training will be led by Maurice FitzMaurice and Janice Yang. Click here to read more about our coaches. Similar to last year, we will bring in guest coaches from time to time. Training will focus on skill development, small games and game situational training. 

Players will receive more than 100 hours of ice time and 20 games, including participation in the Beantown, NAHA and Stoney Creek tournaments. 

A preliminary schedule will be posted soon - it will follow the same general format used last year. Click here to view last year’s schedule.

Vault Summer Training Results:
U19-1 team goes undefeated in winning the USA Hockey New England Regional playing four games in 36 hours with only 8 skaters.

2017-18 Coaches

Entering his 33rd year of coaching, Maurice FitzMaurice will be the head coach of our U19 & U16 teams.

Janice Yang will serve as the assistant coach for both teams.

 

About Our Coaches:

Maurice FitzMaurice

A Founder of the Polar Bears, has coached in twenty-eight USA Hockey National Championship Tournaments. Fitz’s teams have won seven National championships and finished second six times at the Nationals. For nine consecutive years from 1996 to 2004, his teams advanced to the final four at the National Championship Tournament.

Nine members of teams coached by Fitz have participated in the Olympics. In each of the five Olympiads held to date, between two and four players from his teams have participated. Many other of his players have been selected to play for US National teams.

Four members of Fitz’s teams have received the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, the most prestigious award given annually to the top female player in college hockey. 

Thirty-five of Fitz’s players have become coaches at the college or prep school level. Many others have become coaches in youth hockey programs.

In 2008, Fitz received the Joe Burke Award from the American College Coaches Association for “outstanding contribution, support, and dedication to women’s ice hockey.” 

Janice Yang

Most recently completed a four-year career at Brown University (ECAC) where she lead the team in goals her junior year and was tied for second in assists her senior year. Earned ECAC All-Academic honors in 2014 and 2015.

Before matriculating to Brown, Yang competed for Choate Rosemary Hall and the Connecticut Polar Bears.

She helped her Polar Bear teams to multiple silver and bronze medal finishes at the National Championships. A two-time New England Founder’s League Champion with Choate, Yang was also selected as a NEPSAC First Team All-Star her senior year. She was a four-year USA Hockey national camp participant.

Yang is entering her third year as an assistant coach with the Polar Bears.
