Winter 2015-16 and Spring 2016
CYA Basketball uses youth officials to referee house basketball in the winter program for Grades 2-8 and in the spring program for Grades 4-8. Officials can be either adults or youth aged 13 (and in 8th grade) and above. Winter games will begin early December and Spring games at the beginning of April.
Officials are paid between $10-$25 per game, depending upon experience and the age level of those playing in the game. A whistle and uniform shirts will be provided. Experienced officials are also needed for our mentoring program and will be paid to work with our newer referees.
In order to officiate for the CYA basketball program you must be at least 13 years of age and must attend the required training sessions. New and 2nd and 3rd grade refs from last year must attend 2 sessions. The first will be held Saturday October 17th from 12:00 to 2:00 at Rocky Run and the second session to be held on November 15th (Time and gym to be determined.) returning experienced refs will be asked to attend a training session November 15. (Time and gym to be determined)
If you have any questions please contact the Referee Coordinator, Monica Despins, at email@example.com
NOTE: Games for grades 9-12 (Boys and Girls) are officiated by semi-professional referees provided by the Cardinal Basketball Officiating Association.
5th Grade Girls Travel Basketball Tryouts Continue This Week
Friendly reminder that we will continue our tryouts for CYA’s 5th Grade Travel Team on Wednesday and Friday this week, and wrap them up on the 13th. Thank you to all of the parents and girls that came out to the various skills sessions over the past few weeks in preparation for the tryouts. We hope that you found them both fun and educational. For tryouts, we will be working hard to assess skill levels in an attempt to place your daughter into the best fit for her…so there shouldn’t be any nervousness. Please just tell them to come out, give maximum effort and have fun!
CYA will have a member of the board present for the beginning of the tryout in order to talk with parents about the travel program and will be answering any questions that folks may have for them. In order to be eligible to make a team, you daughter must be present for at least two of the scheduled tryouts and must be REGISTERED (free!):
As always, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions that you might have. Be sure to double check the CYA Web Site to verify dates and times. Enjoy a pleasant evening and we look forward to seeing everybody on the court Wednesday!
PS – any girl that can do this move during the tryouts automatically makes the team! ;)sh
