League Registration - Update
League registration for the 2017 summer season has been closed online. We still have a few remaining openings in each age division. Once these have been filled, players will be put on a waiting list. Anyone on the wait list will be contacted before April 8 with the status of their registration. Below is the number of players needed in each age group to fill the teams as of March 16.
If you have questions regarding an opening in any of the age groups please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Michelle at 269-635-9556.
Either of these sites will take you about 30 minutes to complete and there is no cost. Once you have completed the course, you will be able to print a certificate. Please send MASA a copy of the certificate. At this time, you only have to be certified once.
If you have a certificate from either of the above listed web sites, this will satisfy the requirement. Your certificate must be on file with MASA.
These requirements need to be completed before a team can be approved.
All players must review the concussion requirements, then print and sign their name. This requirement also needs to be completed before a team can be approved. This requirement is valid till a player reaches his/her 18th birthday.
This Concussion Form, which is now a fill in form, must be completed by all adults and players, and then submitted to the MASA state office by the head coach. The fillable columns are Student Athletic Name and Parent or Guardian Name only!
We would ask the head coach to submit all of the above items 'at the same time'. Please do not send separately.
ASA affiliated leagues are required to conduct background checks on all adult volunteers/employees. This includes all Board Members, grounds crew, umpires, managers, coaches, team mom/dad and concession stand employees and any other adults that have repetitive access to or contact with the players or teams.
NBGSA is required to conduct the background checks thru M.A.S.A., Michigan Amauteur Softball Association
Sign up at https://www.registerasa.com, you will be asked to enter your personal info as well as a drivers license, once you have been cleared (can take 24 hours or more to clear) then you can take the ACE test, which is required by all Managers, and highly recommended for all coaches and any volunteer personal. the ACE certification gives you access to teaching materials and a insurance policy. Cost for this is $25 for first year, $20 for each year after that
All coaches and managers will be required to provide proof of ACE or a cleared background check if requested. Managers must have a ACE certification completed prior to Draft Day. All coaches must have background checks or ACE completed immediately after Draft Day.
ACE COACHING CERTIFICATION
The ACE Coaching Certification program is provided to any coach through RegisterASA.com. Coaches normally log in to take the certification exam using a username and password (if a profile already exists from a previous certification or from a registration). After purchase, a clear ASA background check is required before access to the certification program is allowed.
Coaching instructions are provided in short video clips categorized by topic which are then followed by an on-screen question and answer section. The certification will be complete once all questions are answered correctly.
NOTE: All missed questions are presented at the end of the exam to allow the coach to review the question again and answer correctly.
Each coach who successfully completes the ACE certification receives an ID card, with background check clearance noted on the card. Level 1 coaches also receive an ACE manual in CD-Rom format. All ACE certifications expire on December 31 each year.
It is necessary for each coach to re-certify each year in order to maintain an active certification for the current season.
