Hawks Partner with Kyle Gross

We are excited to announce that we have named Kyle Gross our Head Pitching Trainer for the 2016 season. Kyle brings a ton of experience with him and we look forward to the work ahead! Here is Kyle's bio....

Kyle Wayne Gross- College Park pitching coach. Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 5th round of the 2000 draft. The son of former 12 year major league Oakland A's 3rd baseman Wayne Gross, Kyle played at Cuesta Junior College in San Luis Obispo under Larry Lee (current head coach at Cal Ploy, SLO). He played 5 seasons for the Giants and was Pitcher of the Month for May of 2002. Coached by Dusty Baker, Felipe Alou, Dick Tidrow, Lee Smith and others. Born and raised in Danville, he played on the San Ramon Valley Little League World Series team that won the National Championship in Williamsport, PA in 1991. He attended Monte Vista High School and after moving on from professional baseball in 2006 began working with players of all ages in the Bay Area. In 2008, he became the Pitching Coach at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. DVC went to the State Championship in Kyle's first year of work, while having three pitcher's drafted in the top 15 rounds. DVC emerged as one of the top programs in the state over the next 4 seasons and led the state in ERA multiple times. After 4 years at DVC, Kyle accepted the Varsity Pitching Coach job at local College Park HS. In 3 years at College Park, the Falcons earned a USA Today National ranking of #1, won back to back NCS Championships, compiled state leading ERA and were named California State team of the year in 2015.

3 Divisions Taken By the Hawks

Tri-Champs

Congratulations to the 9,10 and 11u Hawks for a tremendous weekend of baseball.

To start off, the fresh out of the box 9u team managed by Ron Polasek dominated all the way through their bracket. They proved to be the best team in their division winning all 5 games while putting up 69 runs and only allowing 10. They beat a tough Alamo Devils team to take home the trophy. The 10u division was no different. Hufford's 10u Hawks muscled through to the championship game while only allowing 3 runs up till that point. The championship game was a back and forth battle between the cross town rival Walnut Creek Bulldawgs. The Hawks prevailed 7-4 in a well played game by both teams. This makes them back to back Presidents' Day Champions. The story only gets better with Eric McClaskey and his resilient 11u squad. They played 5 tremendous games and finished the day off beating the hard hitting HF Diablo Valley Blackhawks 5-4. The championship game was nothing short of a pitchers dual that showed off tremendous defense from both squads. The Pleasant Hill Hawks won with an amazing walk off hit by Kayleb Miller which erupted the entire complex, also making them back to back champs.

Thank you to all the teams, parents and volunteers that made this event possible. We couldn't have done it without ALL of you!

See you next year!
