Hawks Spring 2017 Tryouts

Pleasant Hill Baseball Association will be holding open tryouts on Sunday, October 23rd and 30th for the 2017 season for the Pleasant Hill Hawks, a premier travel baseball program in the East Bay.  If you would like to play competitive travel baseball and have a passion for the game, you should try out for the Hawks!  The Pleasant Hill Hawks compete in the 680 Diablo League and play 3-5 tournaments.  The typical Hawks season includes 30-40 games and runs from January through June.  The Pleasant Hill Hawks program competes at a high level and is one of the most reasonably priced travel baseball programs in the Bay Area.

  • All participants must register online with PHBA, see link below (to be added soon).  No payment is required at this time and you will not be charged any tryout fees.

    • A PHBA website log-in required to register online. If you do not have a log in, you must create one or reset your password, as well as a profile for the player trying out for the Hawks.

    • If you do have a log in, but have forgotten the password, please visit the Website How-To page for instructions.

  • The times for tryouts are:

    • 8:30a - 9 and 11 year olds

    • 11:00a. - 10 and 13 year olds

    • 1:30p - 12 and 14 year olds

Register Online Now

  • Ages are as of April 30, 2017  For example if your son turns 10 on or before April 30th, 2017, then he should tryout for the 10 year old division.  If he turns 10 on May 1st, 2017 or later he should tryout for the 9 year old division.

  • If a player wishes to try out for the older division, he must attend the tryouts for that older age group.  If a player wishes to be considered in their appropriate age group as well, he needs to attend BOTH tryouts.

  • The Hawks tryouts will be at the Pleasant Hill Middle School fields located directly behind the school (near the tennis courts).

  • All participants, including returning players, are encouraged to attend both dates. However, it is only required that you attend one.

  • Tryouts will start promptly, so please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your designated start time.

  • Parents are required to accompany each player to the tryouts, sign a waiver and attend a brief meeting.

  • Please do not wear PHBA tournament team, fall ball or Hawks jerseys or baseball caps to the tryouts.

  • All players should be dressed appropriately for a baseball tryout and should have the proper safety equipment (batting helmet and protective cup)

  • Additionally players should also have a hat, shirt tucked in, glove, bat, batting helmet, etc.

  • The 12U Hawks team has a birth in Cooperstown, New York and will compete in a week-long mid-summer tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park. Playing on the 12U Hawks team requires a player and family commitment to travel to Cooperstown.

If you have any questions regarding Hawks Baseball, the level of play, requirements, expenses, Cooperstown trip, etc, please email Ryan Barger, Hawks Baseball Commissioner, at rcbarger@gmail.com.

The son of former 12 year major league Oakland A's 3rd baseman Wayne Gross, Kyle played at Cuesta Junior College in San Luis Obispo under Larry Lee (current head coach at Cal Ploy, SLO). He played 5 seasons for the Giants and was Pitcher of the Month for May of 2002. Coached by Dusty Baker, Felipe Alou, Dick Tidrow, Lee Smith and others.
