The Silverbacks Lacrosse Association (formerly the Newark Youth Lacrosse Club ) got its start in 1989. SBLA has grown since then to offer boys and girls in grades K through 8th grades the opportunity to play one of the fastest growing sports at the youth level. SBLA is a member of the Delaware Youth Lacrosse Association who organizes league games and tournaments during the Spring season that runs from early March through the end of May.
Our Goals and Philosophy at SBLA is to provide a safe, fun and positive environment that fosters good sportsmanship and citizenship while learning the skills necessary to play the great game of lacrosse.
"Come join the fastest game on two feet!"
Headstrong's Relentless Cup
Silverbacks Youth Lacrosse to Participate in HEADstrong’s 3rd Annual Relentless Cup Saturday, April 11
(Holmes, PA) – The Relentless Cup is a special fundraising lacrosse event uniting communities in support of the HEADstrong Foundation™ by combining interstate youth games, high school and college games. The event was introduced in 2012 as a new spring fundraising event to support the HEADstrong Foundation’s fight against blood cancers. In its inaugural year, the event featured Hofstra University who captured the coveted trophy in a 13-1 victory over St. Joseph’s University. In 2013, it was the Lehigh Mountain Hawks who captured the cup with a 12-3 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas.
The youth component of the Relentless Cup is one that makes the event truly unique. Community-based youth lacrosse programs have been hand-selected by the Relentless Cup Committee to represent their specific region. This year Ridley Youth Lacrosse will represent SEPYLA, Kingsway Youth Lacrosse will represent SJYLA, Silverbacks Lacrosse Association will represent DYLA and Lower Macungie Youth Lacrosse will represent LVYLA. Boy’s teams competing at the U11, U13 and U15 levels will have the chance to play 3 full games against non-conference opponents.
The participation fee is $2,700 which will be used by the Headstrong Foundation for Cancer Research. We have received a generous donation of $1,000 from one of our Silverbacks families. We still need to raise another $1,700 through donations. If you wish to support this worthy cause through your tax deductable donations, please go the our Headstrong Foundation page using the following link.
They say Lacrosse is a family and for anyone who is or has been involved with this great sport knows that to be true. On Sunday, February 8th we lost a family member in Eric Potts. I still cannot get my head around that fact that he's no longer with us. I probably won't for quite some time. I've mourned over losing close friends before, but losing Eric ranks right up there with losing my Father to Parkinson's disease. I am, simply stated, heartbroken. I loved Eric for the person he was and became after personally witnessing his tragic accident and coming to render aid, as others did so many years ago on that fateful day. What an inspiration he was to battle through so many adversities and come out of it to inspire others. He touched so many lives with his wit and genuine personality. What a positive life force. Eric got back into the game after a long absence. I'm glad he took me up on the offer to help coach our U9 Boy's team in 2014. He was looking forward to another great season in 2015.
We're all going to miss Eric on the sidelines this Spring coaching his kids, but moreover I'm going to miss one of the nicest, most genuine, most inspirational people I've ever had to pleasure to know.
He was a tremendous Dad to Logan, Husband to Erika, Son to Marie and friend to so many. I love you Eric. Rest in peace.
