JP Withington - Goaltending Director for the 2018-19 season

West Haven Youth Hockey is excited to announce it has added
JP Withington as Goaltending Director for the 2018-19 season.

A native of West Haven, CT, Withington has coached for the Elite Hockey Program & ProCrease Goaltending School for the past five seasons. He continues to work with both programs, specializing in goalie development. JP spent his entire youth career playing for the Blue Devils along with three of his four high school years. In his time at West Haven High School, JP was a two time All SCC & All State Goalie (2010 & 2011). Following his high school career, Withington went on to play Division II ACHA hockey for the University of New Haven. At New Haven, he was a part of the 2012-13 NECHA Championship team & was a two time All Star selection.

"I am very humbled to be given the opportunity to give back and work with the goalies in West Haven" said Withington. "This storied organization is dedicated to player development and growth of the game.  The staff is led by Coaches who have played significant roles in my life both on and off the ice. I am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the upcoming season!"

PeeWee A's as New York Rangers “Flag Kids"

On Tuesday March 6th, two of our PeeWee A’s were able to go to the New York Rangers game and be “Flag Kids” before the game. They went out and flew the Rangerstown Flag and got the crowd pumped up, then gave the Rangers players knuckles as they took the ice before the game. Congratulations to JJ Alling and Bruno Martone who went and participated. Special thanks to the New York Rangers and Junior Rangers for letting us partake, a memory these two will never forget!

Flu Precaution Info For Players & Parent

https://www.gofundme.com/nico-mallozzi-memorial-fund

West Haven Youth Hockey, along with other CT hockey organizations is taking special precautions for the next few weeks due to an increase of influenza (flu) in the State of Connecticut.

The most vulnerable are the elderly, the very young, and people with chronic illnesses (lung disease, cancer, diabetes and heart disease). However, everyone is susceptible.

To help us prevent further spread of the flu among our families, we please ask that you do the following:

  • If you or your child is sick with a fever, do not attend practices or games. Please wait until you or your child has been without a fever for at least 24 hours.

  • No sharing of water bottles during practices or games. Please have players bring their own water bottles (with their name marked on them).

  • Wash your hands frequently using antibacterial soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Please have players leave their gloves on during the end of the game handshake line.

  • Wipe down or wash all hockey equipment after all games and practices.

Thank you for your cooperation.
West Haven Youth Hockey

WHYH's Jake Newkirk at Junior Rangers Kids Day

WHYH would like to congratulate our Mite A Team Jake Newkirk for being able to go to the New York Rangers Junior Rangers Kids Day, as a part of our partnership with the New York Rangers and Junior Rangers.

On Sunday, November 26th, Jake went on the Madison Square Garden ice before the game against the Vancouver Canucks, and stood on the blue line with the Rangers starters for the playing of the American and Canadian National Anthems. Since signing our agreement, we’ve had a Rangers Skills Clinic for our travel team players, and Jake participated in Junior Rangers Kids day.

We would like to thank the Rangers for letting us participate, and look forward to working with them again in the future!

The West Haven Youth Hockey program honored alumnus and former NHL player Eric Boguniecki with a jersey and banner ceremony this past Sunday, November 12, 2017. Boguniecki is currently an assistant coach with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Boguniecki played 13 years of professional hockey, appearing in 739 games between Europe, the ECHL, IHL, AHL, and NHL. He accumulated 601 career points with 273 goals and 328 assists, along with 1,013 penalty minutes. He had 76 points in 178 games of his NHL career.

After scoring 17 goals and adding 28 assists in his first season with the Worcester Icecats of the AHL, Boguniecki went on to have an MVP season the following year in 2001-2002, scoring 38 goals and adding 46 assists for 84 points and a league most valuable player honor. Welcome to the 2017-18 West Haven Youth Hockey Season

On behalf the entire Board of Directors, I am pleased to extend to you a warm welcome to the 2017-18 West Haven Youth Hockey season.  I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer, but now it is time to lace up the skates and get ready for another great year of youth hockey here in West Haven.

Thinking back on last season, a great deal of work and commitment went into improving our program and the product we deliver to our players and their families.  We asked for, received and thank you for your feedback. While much has been accomplished, we pledge to continue working to make West Haven Youth Hockey the premier youth hockey program in the state of Connecticut.

So what can you look forward to this season?  We will open with our first annual Opening Faceoff Weekend on September 8, 9 and 10 featuring games against Hamden Youth Hockey, a cook-out, tailgating and complimentary player t-shirts.  We will honor retired NHL and AHL player Eric Boguniecki, a WHYH alumnus and current Assistant Coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, on October 22 at Webster Arena and at Bennett Rink on November 12.  In addition you can expect:

  •   A Competitive, Educational and Fun atmosphere designed to develop hockey skills, sportsmanship, team-building and character

  •  Weekly Specialty and Goalie Clinics conducted by knowledgeable and experienced coaches

  •  Strong commitment to following USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) with onsite clinics conducted by USA Hockey staff

  •  Free Skills and Drills on-ice sessions and optional dry land training

  •  Programs to help defray your costs such as Multi-player Family Discounts, Tuition Reduction Sponsorships and other Fundraising initiatives

  •  For beginning players a Learn to Play Program that will continue to work in conjunction with the Rink’s  Learn to Skate Program to draw new players to the sport of ice hockey

  •  An information filled Website, Live Barn viewing of games and competitive Tournaments

So I hope you share in my excitement and anticipation over what I believe will be a fun and successful year of youth hockey here in West Haven.  Good luck to everyone and I look forward to seeing you at the rink soon.

All the best,

Kyle

Kyle Bensen

President, West Haven Youth Hockey
