Parkway Youth Hockey / P.O. Box 320024 / West Roxbury, MA 02132
Parkway Youth Hockey is an organization that maintains and runs a hockey program open to and inclusive of all interested youth of the Parkway area: i.e. West Roxbury, Roslindale, and Jamaica Plain. The program is designed to teach and develop hockey skills at all times emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork and responsibility in the overall context of having fun. When a player is assigned to a travel team, preference is given to the Parkway Youth Hockey member.
Tryouts for 2018-2019 PYH Half season Midgets, U14 Girls, and U18 Girls will be held April, 9th -11th 2018 at the Roche Rink (West Roxbury). A more detailed schedule with individual team try out sessions dates and times will be posted soon after registration closes and after the number of players trying out is finalized.
All players interested in trying out for a PYH Travel Team must register through our website starting Saturday, March 17th, 2018. Please register as soon as possible. Late registrants (those who register after 3/31/2018) will be charged a $50 late fee. This late fee will not be applied towards tuition and is not refundable.
Please note, players are not guaranteed a spot of a travel team by trying out; some players may not be assigned to a travel team due to the number of players/teams at a given level in a given year. Every effort shall be made to place a player in a PYH program or team should they not be assigned to a travel team.
TRY OUT COSTS FOR VALLEY HOCKEY LEAGUE & MIDDLESEX YANKEE CONFERENCE TEAMS
The cost to try out for a VHL Midget team is $600 (final tuition to set by Board of Directors at a later date). Middlesex Yankee Conference U14 travel team is $300. U18 Girls is $650. All tryout and registration fees (except late fees) will be applied towards tuition. Final tuition costs of travel teams will be determined by the PYH Board of Directors at a later date after league registration and game fees have been forwarded to PYH.
PRIOR BALANCES -
If your child participated in one of our House programs or Travel teams this year, then you already have an account in our system. Please do not create a new one. If you have a problem logging in, please make sure that you are using the correct email address (i.e. work, home, spouse's email address, etc.).
Final tuition payments for the current 2017-2018 season (and any prior balances) are due in full and need to be paid before tryouts. Please note that players with outstanding balances will not be assigned to a try out session until the balance is paid in full, and may not be placed on a travel team roster for the 2018-2019 season.
Please email us at
if you have any questions about any balance information that you see on the website. Parkway Youth Hockey does offer limited financial assistance and payment plans for tuition costs if it is needed.
If you are unfamiliar with travel hockey and have any questions, please feel free to email
If you have any questions about the above, please reach out to one of your current coaches or a member of the Board.
Please keep the Berry family in your prayers. Scott is a past Vice President of Parkway Youth Hockey, as well a a very active member of the Parkway community. We have shared the article and link to his gofundme page. Please consider donating.
Calling all interested coaches for the 18/19 season!
PYH Community (Past + Present),
We are now accepting applications for travel team coaching positions for our 18/19 seasons. With tryouts coming to a close, this is the next important step in the process. As we have done in the past, we are asking those interested to complete an application on our website (Coaches => Travel Team Coaching Application). We are asking for all applications to be submitted by April 1.
Our coaches + volunteers are truly what make PYH possible. It is a challenging, but very rewarding opportunity. For those who may be new or for those who have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to any existing coaches or Board Members with questions (you can reply to this email, as well).
The 2nd (and final) Bantam tryout postponed by the snow on Wednesday will be made up on Monday 3/19 from 7-9 PM. Please refer to the following like to see which session your child is scheduled to participate in:
As required by PYHL's by-laws, nominations for eight (8) positions on the Board of Directors will be accepted from members of Parkway Youth Hockey at the March 15, 2018. The meeting will take place at Roche rink. The Board election shall take place at PYHL's annual meeting April 10, 2018. The annual meeting will take place at the Area E police station at the Holy Name rotary in the community room.
The 15 members of the Board of Directors are elected by the voting members of PYHL and serve terms of two years, beginning on May 1st of the year in which such Director is elected. This year eight (8) members of the Board shall be elected. The Directors manage the operation of PYHL programs and it is a volunteer position.
At the time of the election a voting member is entitled to cast a vote in favor of as many nominees as there are vacant Board seats. Those nominees receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to the Board. In the event of a tie in the vote of the membership for election of the final member of the Board of Directors in any given year, the existing members of the Board of Directors will vote between or among the persons whose election resulted in the tied vote, and by such vote the Board of Directors will break the tie and elect the final member of the Board.
If the number of nominees is less than the number of seats to be filled by election, no election by the members will need to be held and all nominees shall be deemed elected. Vacancies on the Board of Directors, due to resignation, removal, lack of a sufficient number of nominees or otherwise, shall be filled by election by a majority of the Board of Directors.
Please contact a PYH Board Member if you are interested in seeking nomination to the election ballot.
As a result of last week's weather cancellation, the Parkway Youth Hockey Tryout Committee unanimously voted to have tryouts limited to two sessions on Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam levels.
Due to next week's ice schedule being filled and Valley League playoffs starting as early as Monday, March 19, we felt that this was the only way possible to have all players participate in an equitable manner.
Thank you for your continued support of Parkway Youth Hockey.
We have coordinated for Chip Fagan District 3 Supervisor, to hold an information session on Monday April 2nd 7-8pm at the Roche Community Center to discuss the process for becoming a Mass Hockey Official. A number of current and former PYH players and coaches are Mass Hockey Officials. It is a great part-time job with flexible hours, a way stay involved in the game and develop leadership skills. More information can be found at www.massofficials.com and we encourage those interested to attend the session to learn more. You must be 14 in order to officiate. Parents are welcome to attend as well.
For those interested, please reach out to Mike Murray (firstname.lastname@example.org) so that he can get a count and plan accordingly.
