18U C finish 2nd @ Moses Lake Tournament

Coach Bill Eriksen and Assistant Coach Joseph Hammond and their 18U Everett Grizzlies earned a second place banner at the 2018 Moses Lake Winter Classic tournament.  Six teams competed at the Moses Lake outdoor rink over three days, with the final played in the Sunday afternoon sunshine on January 14th.

The Grizzlies punished the home town #2 seed Moses Lake Coyotes in the Semi-Final 8-1 in the morning, and then lost a hard fought championship game 4-2 to the Castlegar, B.C. Shamrocks.  In the first half of the final, the Shamrocks heavily out shot the Grizzlies and built an early 3-0 lead.   A late 2nd period  goal by Jeffrey Andrews (assisted by Cameron Ford and Ryan Luczak) and a third period unassisted power play goal by Joshua Harrington brought the Grizzlies to within one goal.  Down 3-2, the Grizzlies fought furiously to come back and narrowly missed, with Jeffrey Andrews and Cam Ford each striking iron during a third period where the Grizzlies created multiple quality scoring chances and outshot the Shamrocks.  The Castlegar Shamrocks weathered the Grizzlies’ offensive storm and scored with 1:44 remaining to make it 4-2.  Everett netminder Jack Tombs made 24 saves in the effort, with the Shamrocks edging the Grizzlies in shots by a final tally of 28-27.

The Grizzlies played five games at the Winter Classic, losing only one preliminary round game and the final.  The Grizzlies outscored their opponents by a combined tally of 28 to 14 over the 5 games, led by Captains Cameron Ford (5 goals) and Jeffrey Andrews (10 goals).  Eight other players scored one or more goals in the tournament:  Evan Lloyd, Bryan Cortes, Josh Aylett (2), Ryan Luczak (2), Chase McComas, Caleb Pilch-Bisson (3), Carl Wallace (2), and Joshua Harrington.
