Travel Teams/Rosters
by posted 05/10/2013

Thank you for your patience during the tryout and travel team selection process - at this point the selection process has been completed, and the travel teams and coaches that will represent Parkway Youth Hockey during the 2013-14 season are set and will be posted on the web site shortly.

With regard to the amount of time taken to select teams and publish rosters, here is a rough timeline of how this year's selection process progressed:

·         Friday March 22nd- all tryouts ended
·         Friday April 12th- player notification deadline.  Coach and team selections can now begin.
·         Week of April 15th - A team coaches and players selected
·         Weeks of April 22nd and 29th  - B team coaches and players selected
·         Week of May 6th - C team coaches and players selected

To recap, tryouts ended on March 22nd, but we could not start the selection process until after April 12th (player notification deadline) and subsequent confirmation from the Valley Hockey League of our placement for the next season. The notification deadline enables us to compile a final list of players who will skate for PYH in the upcoming season. In addition, at this time of year we face additional challenges with scheduling selection meetings with all coordinators and coaches (April vacation/spring sports/work schedules, etc.). Faced with the choice of completing the process more quickly, or completing the process correctly, the coordinators and coaches chose the latter with respect to our policies and guidelines, ensuring that the appropriate individuals were involved during this process.

A note regarding Squirts:

Although we attempted to place those who tried out at the Squirt level onto teams, the large number of entrants has taxed our ice resources and presented a unique situation at the Squirt level, with more players than there are available roster spots. All players who tried out and were not assigned to a travel team for next season will be assigned to a team in the PYH McLaughlin Development League, to continue their development and enjoy the game of hockey.

For those of you interested in our progress regarding a Girls U10 team, the Board has reserved a slot for a potential team in the South Shore Conference for next season along with the U12, U14 and U19 teams.  However, we are still seeking a coach, and gathering information about available ice time, etc. We hope to have more information in the coming weeks.

Rosters will be published today. Please choose the appropriate level (i.e. Mite, Squirt, etc.) on the "Tryouts" tab at the top of the website to see the team rosters for next season.

Have a great summer - we’re looking forward to another successful season of Parkway Youth Hockey in 2013-2014.

Thank you,

Parkway Youth Hockey

Travel Team Tryout Update
by posted 03/22/2013

Thank you to all of the players who participated in the tryouts for the 2013-2014 Parkway Youth Hockey season - you all did a fantastic job showcasing your skills for Parkway! Also, a special note of thanks to all of the Coaches, Tryout Coordinators, and volunteers who gave their time, and helped make the tryout period successful.

At this point, in the coming weeks the Board of Directors will be reviewing several candidates for head coaching positions and making coach selections. Once the coaching selections have been confirmed, the coaches, along with the tryout coordinators, will begin the team selection process. Once all teams have been selected, and any player commitments to teams outside of PYH have been determined (i.e. Junior Bruins, Boch, etc), then the team rosters will be posted on our website. Rosters can only be set after PYH determines its player commitments to PYH or outside teams. Understanding that different teams set different deadlines for commitments, we would like to have the selection process completed by the end of April.

Thank you for your patience - we will do our very best to ensure a timely completion of the selection process.

Reminder: Overdue/Late Tuition Payments:
Please note that final tuition payments for the 2012-2013 season (and any prior balances) are due in full and need to be paid in order to be eligible for placement on a PYHL travel team for the 2013-14 season.  If you have unpaid tuition, please make sure that you contact our treasurer Nick Favorito (email= ) to work out a payment schedule or request financial assistance by completing the form on our website:

Tryout Information and Dates for 1/2 Season (GBYHL) Midget Teams
by posted 03/14/2013

Tryouts for the 1/2 Season (GBYHL) Midgets teams will be held next week at the Roche rink:

- Tuesday (March 19th) from 9 to 10 PM
- Wednesday (March 20th) from 9 to 10 PM

Players should plan to attend both nights.

Parkway Youth Hockey would like to offer a brief explanation concerning the PYH Midget teams.  There are two categories of Midget teams:

-- ½ Season (Travel) teams that play in the GBYHL League
-- Full Season (House) team that plays in the Quincy President's League

The ½ Season GBYHL Midget Travel teams usually consists of two teams with rosters of up to 15 players.  The travel teams generally play a ½ season from late August/early September to the end of November.  At the conclusion of the GBYHL season in November, the ½ Season Midget season is over and many of these players will then move on to play for their respective high school teams.  All practices are held in West Roxbury and Hyde Park.  Games are played at home and away (other GBYHL town rinks).  Tryouts are required for these teams.

The Full Season Quincy Midget team generally consists of players that wish to play for a full season (September thru March) and will not be skating for their high school teams.  All practices are held in West Roxbury and/or Hyde Park.  All games are played on Sunday mornings in Quincy.  There are no try outs for this team and space is limited to 20 players.

Please visit our registration page in order to register for either one of these programs:
