posted 05/13/2013 To all GLBR family and friends. We are halfway through our season. As we look to finishing up the regular season I need to bring to your attention and re-enforce some basic principals and expected code of conduct.
We expect coach's, players and parents/spectators to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and demonstrate good sportsmanship. Each of us agrees to a code of conduct upon registration. We need to hold ourselves to those standards. As parents and coach's we have a large influence on our youth. Over the last few weeks we have had a couple incidents reported to us of unacceptable behavior. In each case we have addressed the incidents based on our rules and the information received from all involved parties.
Lastly, despite reminding every player and coach about the sliding/contact rule we find infractions in this area. The rule simply is No Contact. The runner must slide and avoid contact with the defensive player. The defensive player must give the runner the opportunity to the base/plate, they can not be standing on top or in front. However, if the defensive player is on or in front of the bag/plate the runner still does not have the right to make contact with the defensive player, they must slide or avoid contact. I have witnessed over the years runners in the heat of the moment crash catchers, 1st basemen, etc. We all must re-enforce this can not happen. Crashing a player is immediate ejection and one game suspension.
added note 5/14: take the time to re-review our code of conduct and league rules to the left under the about our league tab
Thank you,
Joe
