When is Practice Weekend?
Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 2017. View full schedule.

Captains should sign up for a practice slot here:

Where is Practice Weekend?
Boats launch from the Dragonheart Dock at the Waterfront Community Boat Launch in Burlington, right in front of the U.S. Coast Guard Station. Get directions.

What should I wear?
Expect to get wet! Wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little grubby, that won't chafe when they're wet, and that will dry quickly.

What should I bring?
We supply all the basic paddling equipment: paddles, life vests**, and the all-important butt pads. We recommend that you bring:

     a full water bottle

a hat with a brim, or sunglasses with croakies

a towel and change of clothes for afterwards

**You can use your own life vest if you prefer, as long as it is Coast Guard-approved

(Just a thought: You might also want to bring a little cash. Our popular Pick-Your-Prize raffle returns this year, and tickets will be available on Practice Weekend. Check out this year's list of prizes.)

What should I expect?
Expect a great time! You will be met by a Dragonheart host, who will introduce you to the basics of paddling, help you get equipped, make sure you are warmed up, and introduce you to your coach. The coach will instruct you on paddling technique and take you out on beautiful Lake Champlain for a 75 minute practice session.

Where can I park?
Parking is always at a premium down at the waterfront so plan to allow plenty of time to park and walk to the dock. With Practice Weekend and BrewFest taking place the same weekend, the area will be especially busy, so please allow extra time. The Skateboard park has approximately 89 new parking spots which may be available for early practice teams, this is a first come, first served, public location. Note that parking is not permitted in the Community Boat Launch area. Check out our parking suggestions for both Practice and Festival Weekends.

Main Street Landing has a license to manage the North Meadow parking lot on Lake Street between Main Street Landing and the condos at 200 Lake Street. They will be charging a parking fee.

What if the weather is bad?
Practice Weekend will be canceled only in case of lightning or very high winds at the waterfront. Please make an effort to come, as the weather where you are may not be the same as that at the waterfront. Keep an eye on the Festival's Facebook page -- if the weather is borderline, we'll post updates there.

Can I bring the donations I've collected so far?
Yes! Bring donations to the Registration table. Please put all of your donations in one envelope, and be sure to write your name and your team name on that envelope and on any checks you turn in, so we can be sure to credit them to the right team.

If your donors want written acknowledgments for their donations, be sure to provide us with a legible list of donors, their contact information, and the amounts of their donations.

Thank you for supporting our causes: Dragonheart Vermont and Survivorship NOW cancer wellness programs.

When do I get my Festival Shirt and Hat?
We'll give the shirts and hats to your team captain at the end of your practice session. You can use your Festival shirt as an easy fundraising tool - see how here.
