Lacrosse Coaches/Program Coordinators:

Thanks for your interest in the 10th Annual Newtown Fall LaxFest. This years event will take place on Saturday October 11th at Treadwell Park in Sandy Hook. This document provides official rules, waiver forms and directions to Treadwell Park. We are hoping to change the format from past years and will pit New York vs. Connecticut teams if we get the numbers to make it work. Number of games and possible playoff games will be determined based on the number of teams competing.

This year we will have teams competing in four divisions – 5th grade, U11/6th Grade, U13/7th Grade, and U15/8th Grade.

Please remember to submit your Team Roster/Waiver form and your fees prior to October 3. Please return the forms/fees to:

Newtown Lacrosse Association

PO Box 3213

Newtown, CT 06470

The fee for each registered team is $400 each. Checks should be made payable to NLA.

PLEASE, no sports drinks, soft drinks, food or chewing gum on the artificial turf – water only. Each team will be given a trash bag to police their sidelines at the end of each game. Trash bins will be at each end of the field. Your help in keeping the park free of litter and trash is appreciated.

Thanks for considering. We’re looking forward to seeing you should be another great event!

Sincerely,

2014 NEWTOWN FALL LAXFEST

Official Rules

  1. ROSTER SIZE: minimum team size is 10.  Players must be registered members of US Lacrosse and provide parental signature on the attached waiver form.
  2. The competition is a 7 versus 7 format. Onside is in effect - 2 players on offense and 3 on defense at all times. There is no restraining line.
  3. Each game consists of one twenty minute running time period. Time is kept on the scoreboard.
  4. Each game begins with a face-off. Wing middies must be positioned to the left of their face-off man, at the intersection of the sideline and the midline. Defenders and attackers must remain behind the goal line extended until the referee signals possession. The goalie must remain in the crease area until possession is signaled.
  5. All games will be continuous “live play”.  After a goal is scored the ball is awarded to the scored upon goalie who must put the ball in play from his crease area within FIVE seconds. A referee’s whistle will indicate that play has recommenced.  The goalie’s initial outlet pass after a save or a goal made from behind the midfield line may NOT be made across the midfield line.
  6. When an offensive player takes a shot and the ball goes out of bounds (on either the end line or sideline) untouched by a defensive player, the defense retains possession. If a defensive player deflects a shot out of bounds, the offense retains possession.
  7. Penalties are called and served as they are in regular field lacrosse. Penalty time starts when the penalized player takes a knee, out of bounds, at the midline, on the bench side of the field.
  8. All player substitutions are on the fly. Players must be completely off of the field before substitutes may enter the field of play.
  9. Team members must wear matching jerseys or tank tops which are numbered.
  10. Maximum of two long poles on the field at a time.
  11. In the event of a tie, winners will be determined by “Braveheart” in which two opposing field players face off and play one-on-one against each other and the opposing goalie until one player scores. Goalies may NOT cross the midline into their opponent’s offensive end. All standard possession rules apply on shots and out-of-bounds.
  12. Legal body checking is allowed – but no player may take more than three steps before checking an opponent, and there will be NO “take-out” checks. All unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and take-out checks will result in the penalized player’s ejection from the game. Any ejected player will also be forced to sit out the team’s next game. Any player ejected from two games over the course of the tournament will be removed from all remaining games.
  13. Coaches and players may not call time-out. Stoppage of play due to injury or other circumstance will only be called by the referee.
