Volunteer Information

Fort Hunt Youth Volleyball is 100% volunteer. We recognize that volunteers may have limited time to contribute and we fully appreciate the commitment to making Fort Hunt Youth Volleyball a success for your child and all our youth athletes.  For the program to function, below are volunteer positions that need to be filled.

COACHING

  • Coach - Head coaches and Assistant Coaches are always needed. The number of teams fielded in each league is directly related to the number of coaches that volunteer. Only when additional head coaches volunteer are players pulled from the wait lists. Coaches can either be adults or High School students. The commitment is a minimum of 3 hours per week: 1.5 hr practice plus 1 hr match. Responsibilities include communicating directly with players, families and league officials, establishing practice plans, and managing the team during practices and matches. Prior coaching and volleyball playing experience a plus, but not required -- coaching training, mentoring and supporting materials are provided. As benefits, coaches have the ability to influence practice times and locations. For HS students, community service credits are available. If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner. As per FHYAA policy, a background check and PCA certification are required for adult coaches.  
  • Clinic Instructor - The target is multiple Clinic Instructors to support skills development clinics at the beginning of the season. The commitment is 1 to 3 hours a few times during the season. Responsibilities include attending clinics and working directly with players on foundational volleyball skills of passing, setting, hitting and serving. Ideal candidates are adults and High School students with volleyball playing and coaching experience. If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner.
     

LEAGUE OFFICIAL

  • Commissioner / League Coordinator - Responsibilities include communicating league-related information to coaches/players/parents, scheduling practices and matches, managing team and facilities change requests, and ensuring the smooth operation of the league. No prior volleyball experience required. Mentoring provided.  If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner.
  • Referee Coordinator - The target is one primary Referee Coordinator. The commitment is 1 to 3 hours per week. Responsibilities include interacting with High School volleyball players to referee league matches, establishing the referee schedule, managing schedule changes and ensuring match results are entered into the website. No prior volleyball experience required.  If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner. 
  • Facilities Permit Coordinator - The target is one primary Facilities Coordinator. Responsibilities include completing FCPS gym space applications, receiving gym closure / change requests and working with coaches and Facilities Scheduler to reschedule.
  • Scheduler - The target is one person to use the allotted gym space provided by FCPS and compile and maintain a master schedule of all practice and game times. If interested, please contact the volleyball commissionerรข€‹.
  • Technical Director - The target is one primary Skills/Clinics Director. Responsibilities include organizing and running skills clinics, providing coaches with training, mentoring and supporting materials, and establishing the volleyball rules followed during the season. This position requires prior volleyball coaching experience and a desire to help improve the skills of players and coaches. If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner.
  • Registration / Website Manager - The target is one primary Coordinator. Responsibilities include maintaining and regularly updating the league website, maintaining the registration, compiling the teams, producing the rosters and making sure all payments are received.
  • Apparel Manager - The target is one primary Apparel Coordinator. The commitment could be 3 to 6 hours per week at the beginning of the season and far less at all other times. Responsibilities include identifying league uniforms and designs, ordering apparel from established vendors, and distributing to coaches.
  • Equipment Manager -  The target is one person responsible for maintaining, requisitioning, inventorying and distributing all volleyball equipment.  If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner.

PAID POSITIONS

  • Referee -  Individuals are needed to referee league matches and post game results. Ideal candidates are High School volleyball players with a USA Volleyball referee certification. Referees are paid $20 per hourly match and referee for a 2-3 hour period on the weekend (Sundays). If interested, please contact the volleyball commissioner.
