Our seventh annual Pink The Rink games to benefit breast cancer awareness were held on January 23, 2016 at the Gene Polisseni Center at RIT and were again a huge success! We are continuing a great tradition!
There were approximately 1330 tickets sold to the games –a great turnout and one of our highest! The evening went off without a hitch and all events ran smoothly. There was great student involvement at both Pittsford and Victor high schools during the week of the games and at the actual games. Five hundred foam pucks were sold for the chuck-a-puck contest with the grand prize being a $100 gift certificate to the Northside Inn. There was DJ music. Professional announcing was done by Joe Agostinelli. The RIT pep band joined us and made the mood even more exciting. The National Anthem was performed beautifully by Mendon High School students Emily Rose, Veronica Nobrega, Ellie Colton and Alex Repp before the JV game, and by Sutherland High School students Emma Smith and Sierra Morabito before the Varsity game. They were all absolutely amazing!
The final numbers are almost complete and this year Pittsford Hockey raised approximately $7800 to donate to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester from admission proceeds, spirit wear sales, chuck a puck sales, jersey sponsorships and game day donations. This brings the 7 year total to over $40,000. In addition, the Pittsford Power Play on Cancer pledges and donations to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Pittsford Hockey total about $3000! Varsity and JV teams have a combined power play goal count of 18 so far this season with several games still to be played.
A big thank you to our volunteers, players, parents and coaches for their efforts on and off the ice to make this fundraising season such a success and to everyone that supports these games by sponsoring jerseys, donating time, forwarding information to hockey fans, showing up to cheer and just plain getting in the spirit!
Pink the Rink is an annual event. Our pink jerseys and socks are stored to use every year. The 10 sponsor patches from this year and the 68 from previous years will remain on the jerseys forever. I hope that each year we can add some more, so if anyone is interested in sponsoring a jersey feel free to contact me at
Again, thank you for making this a truly successful and fulfilling fundraising adventure.
