Our eighth annual Pink The Rink games to benefit breast cancer awareness were held on February 4, 2017 at the Gene Polisseni Center at RIT and were again a huge success! We are continuing a great tradition!
There were 1091 tickets sold to the games –a great turnout! The evening went off without a hitch and all events ran smoothly. There was great student involvement at both Pittsford and McQuaid high schools during the week of the games and at the actual games. Foam pucks were sold for the chuck-a-puck contest with the grand prize being a $100 gift certificate to the Northside Inn. There was DJ music. Professional announcing was done by Steve Inkin. The RIT pep band joined us and made the mood even more exciting. The National Anthem was performed beautifully by Barker Road student Olivia Norten before the JV game, and by Mendon High School student Shannon Beel before the Varsity game. They were both absolutely amazing!
The final numbers are almost complete and this year Pittsford Hockey raised approximately $7800 to donate to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester from admission proceeds, sales of spirit wear, chuck a pucks, cookies, commemorative pink pucks, jersey sponsorships and game day donations. This brings the 7 year total to over $48,000. In addition, the Pittsford Power Play on Cancer donations to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Pittsford Hockey total about $1800!
In added excitement the 4-2 game kept everyone on the edge of their seats and the Panthers celebrated victory by taking home the first annual Challenge Cup sponsored by Brian Sheridan of MassMutual Rochester!
A big thank you to our volunteers, players, parents and coaches for their efforts on and off the ice to make this fundraising season such a success and to everyone that supports these games by sponsoring jerseys, donating time, forwarding information to hockey fans, showing up to cheer and just plain getting in the spirit!
Pink the Rink is an annual event. Our pink jerseys and socks are stored to use every year. The 12 sponsor patches from this year and the 78 from previous years will remain on the jerseys forever. I hope that each year we can add some more, so if anyone is interested in sponsoring a jersey feel free to contact me at
Again, thank you for making this a truly successful and fulfilling fundraising adventure.
