Jahn Ice Rink - Pomfret, Connecticut
Thank you for visiting Griffin Youth Hockey Association.
Since 1973, we have provided an avenue for children of all ages to learn the great sport of ice hockey.
Griffin Youth Hockey is an organization whose purpose is to promote the enjoyment, recreational, and competitive benefits of youth hockey. It is our goal to teach the fundamentals of hockey and the fun of playing. We are not an organization whose purpose is to win at all costs. We support fair ice time for all players regardless of playing ability, to measure development in personal growth, hard work, self-discipline and team work. We hope to teach the valuable lessons that can be equated to everyday life...work hard, play fair, and enjoy a great experience.
Our recreational hockey program begins in November and concludes in March. Come join us for some great fun at the rink. If you have any more questions, please
Due to the ever increasing operating costs for youth hockey, sponsorships from local businesses and corporations are necessary. To become a League Sponsor, or individual Team Sponsor, please
Griffin Youth Hockey has created three distinct categories within
its structure to help meet the needs of the youth player:
1) Instructional - [Pomfret, CT] This program is to meet the needs of the beginning skater/player. Basic skills will be taught equally in a non-competitive environment. Fun, physical development, and a sociable environment are stressed.
2) Recreational - [Pomfret, CT] The backbone of youth hockey, recreational hockey encourages internal "house" play. This program is designed to provide opportunities to play for enjoyment, fitness, relaxation, and fellowship. Skill development and team concepts are stressed, rather than winning.
3) Travel - [
] Coaches teach a higher-level skill development for players from the surrounding Tri-State communities who havea desire and ability for a competitive experience. Balance of winning and sportsmanship is stressed, and travel for competition should be reasonable. .
Griffin Youth Hockey is organized as follows:
GYHA House League
Mite Division Mite Minor
thru 10 - Incorporates hockey skating techniques for the beginner, yet still flexible for the first-time skater. We recommend that all first-time skaters should turn five (5) years of age by January of the following year.
Mite Division Mite Majors
thru 10 - For children who have previous skating experience. Introduction of "Full-Ice" hockey practices and games. Our "CHC" Mite team is 8 and Under.
