The Darien YMCA Travel basketball program is for the highly skilled players in Grades 5th through 8th who have long-term interest in competitive basketball and a willingness to make a time commitment to their training and team schedule. The travel teams compete in the Fairfield County Basketball League which is traditionally one of the toughest leagues in the state and contains some the best basketball talent around. Teams practice two nights a week and have one instructional clinic per week. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Please note that all travel participants must be Darien YMCA members either through a youth membership or added on to a family membership. To qualify for FCBL league games you must be a Darien resident.
Players must attend all grade appropriate tryouts.
*If you plan on trying out for Travel, please register for House Basketball first to ensure yourself a spot in the program in case you do not make Travel. If you do not register for House and do not make Travel, you run the risk of being locked out of the program.
An additional cost of $80 is required for travel team uniforms.
Uniforms are yours to keep and can be used multiple years as long as you make a travel team again.
All travel players are required to be Darien YMCA members through a family membership or youth membership.
Darien YMCA 4th Grade Boys Developmental Travel Basketball
Even though this is a team that will practice and play games, we view it as a developmental year to help players prepare for 5th grade travel basketball. Enhanced skills and concepts will be taught to help introduce to players what they will see at the next level.
Players will tryout and be chosen for this team. Players who are chosen for this team will also participate in the house league.
The 4th grade travel team will practice once a week and play one game per week. Combined with house basketball, travel players will be playing four days per week.
