Ravens Look to Continue Momentum in Season Opener on Sunday

Rochester, NY, 05/19/11 — This Sunday, May 22nd, the Rochester Ravens will play their first game of the 2011 season when they play at Toronto.  They will be playing against the Toronto Lady Lynx at 1:00 PM at the Ontario Soccer Centre.  Going into the match, the Ravens look to improve on last season, which culminated with a 2-9-1 record, a franchise high of seven points.

“The entire organization is extremely excited for this season,” said team owner Doug Miller, “If the team continues the momentum we had at the end of last year, we will have a special season.”

The 2010 season for the Ravens was one to remember.  The team set franchise records in wins (2), points (7), and goals scored (8).  There are 12 returning players from last year and they hope to continue the positive momentum.  They finished fifth in the division and are poised to increase their position in 2011.  Returning striker Eileen Coyle finished a team high 5 points off of 2 goals and one assist.  The Ravens also return Brittany Godin, who led the team in minutes played last season with 855.

The Rochester Ravens will play a Toronto Lady Lynx team that finished the 2010 season with a 7-2-3 record and 24 points.  They advanced to the playoffs and lost in the Central Semifinals.  The Lady Lynx have had a string of success since 2005, making the playoffs in each year except 2009.  Their best season in that span was in 2005 when they made it to the conference finals.  Leading their team is goalkeeper Justine Bernier, who has already represented Canada at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Chile.  Bernier has led a strong push of Lady Lynx goalkeepers that are becoming involved with national team programs.

The Rochester Ravens first home game is May 28th against the Ottawa Fury and tickets are $5.00.  The game will be played at the Ravens’ new home stadium, Wegmans Stadium at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester.  Season tickets are $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids under the age of 15. For additional information about the team you can contact Devin DePoint at 585-352-5300 or .
