In remembering Gordon Gray, one of the first things that come to mind is Brighton Little League Girls Softball. As an avid fan, supporter and teacher of the game, Gordon helped to establish and nurture the girls’ program in the early 1980’s. For over a decade he devoted his time to coaching his three daughters and the other young girls within our community. Gordon taught these young women more than just new skills; he taught them what it meant to be part of a team and instilled a lifelong passion for athletics in a generation of young Brighton athletes.
Being patient, fair, constructive and fun, Gordon gained the support of athletes, parents and fans throughout our community. With his most dedicated supporter, his wife Ginny, and his three biggest fans, daughters Courtney, Whitney and Meredith at his side, Gordon coached with a sincere and enthusiastic adoration for his teams and athletes.
In 2002 Gordon was presented with the “Phil Feldman Memorial Award” for his dedication, loyalty and commitment to the Brighton Baseball Program.
In his name, his family has started the annual Gordon W. Gray, Jr. Girls Brighton Little League Softball Fundraiser game. Each year, on father’s day weekend, supporters contribute, play and cheer on a friendly co-ed slow pitch softball game.
The money raised goes to a scholarship supporting the program Gordon loved so dearly. Funds have also been used to build new batting cages, a new scoreboard, equipment, and field restoration. Each year anyone can sign up to play, or come to support the memory of a dedicated husband, father and coach.
