An exciting pinnacle to the Little League season for our older girls is the opportunity to participate in post-season tournaments. Little League offers tournament team opportunities for girls 9-12, culminating in the Little League World Series in Portland, Oregon each August.
The LGLLS season tournaments for the following age groups:
9/10 10/11 11/12
Being selected to a tournament team is a great honor, but it is also a time commitment. Beginning on June 1st, teams begin practice leading up to the tournament.
LGLLS teams will compete in a District tournament in early July with the Fauquier Girls Little League Softball. The winner of the district tournament will earn the right to play in the Virginia State Little League tournaments.
Below are the 2016 locations and report dates:
•9/10 State tournament – Bridgewater, VA - starting on July 8, 2016
•10/11 State tournament – Coeburn, VA - starting on July 8, 2016
•11/12 State tournament – Portsmouth, VA on July 15, 2016
State tournaments can run up to 7 days. Winners of the VA State tournaments may be invited to proceed to Regional tournaments in late July.
Players in AAA and Majors are eligible for the teams**. Additionally, players must be Little League age 9 to 12 as of December 31 of the previous year.
No player is guaranteed to be selected to a tournament team as the LGLLS objective is not necessarily to put the best 10-13 players on the field, but to field the team best able to win the tournament! Being selected to a previous tournament team does not guarantee placement in subsequent years.
Players that are invited to participate on tournament teams should be available to participate in practices and games from mid-June to late July. Pre-planned vacations during this time frame may preclude your player from being selected. Parents of players on teams that advance to the state tournaments may also have additional costs incurred for travel and hotel expenses.
LGLLS is providing this information to parents so that summer vacation plans are considered, this information maybe factored by those families who wish their athletes to be considered for an All Star team. Additional details and specific instructions about the team selection process will be provided to AAA and Majors parents in early Spring.
** Some restrictions apply. To be eligible, players must participate in at least 60% of the team’s regular season games. Additional restrictions imposed by Little League International may apply.
