Coaches: CEP #3 Training *Please Read*

Coaches,

As we begin our new season, it is necessary to ensure that everyone has completed his USAH coaching requirements for the 2018-19 season.

Please see the chart below to review your individual requirements that must be completed.  Anything outlined in yellow indicates that you have online requirements and/or clinics that you must attend this fall.  If you do not see your name on this list, then you are not required to complete any training for the 2018-19 season.

Before the system allows your name to be added to your respective 2018-19 roster/(s), you must have the following two (2) items completed:

  • If you need to complete Safe Sport, we need this completed by Friday, August 17.  Unfortunately, the refresher course no longer exists and you will be required to open a new account as this is a new system that has been implemented by USA Hockey.   The new course allegedly takes 3 hours to complete.  Please go to www.usahockey.com and click on the Coaches  tab at the top of the page. Then, click on Training Materials and then the Safe Sport Training within that tab.

  • If you need to complete an Age-Specific Module (Mites, Squirts, Peewees, Bantams and Midgets), we need this completed by Friday, August 17.  As a reminder, these courses take 5-6 hours to complete.  Please go to www.usahockey.com and click on the Coaches tab at the top of the page. Then, click on Coaching Certification and then the Age-Specific Module within that tab.

Finally, if required, please schedule Clinic training (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 or Level 4) upon your earliest convenience.  The local CT classes will begin to be posted in the next 2-3 weeks, so we suggest that you schedule them as quickly as you can as they are almost always oversubscribed.  Go to www.usahockey.com and click on the Coaches tab at the top of the page. Then, click on Coaching Certification and then the Coaching Clinics within that tab.

You can go to classes in any state (CT, NY, NJ, etc...)  Midget coaches need to complete all clinics and online modules before October 31, 2018.  The deadline for completion for all other coaches is December 31, 2018.  August and September are the ideal months to complete your required USA Hockey training.

If you have any questions, please email Boyd at Boyd19@aol.com.

Registration for Mite Development Program (MDP)

Parents,

The New Canaan Winter Club also offers a Mite Development Program (MDP) for rising hockey players and those looking for a non-travel option.

Please help us plan for next season by registering before Friday, August 17.  A fee of $250 will be assessed after August 17.

We are excited to announce that Jake Granito will be running our MDP program and Christi Jones will be involved also by helping our young hockey players improve their skating skills.   Other travel hockey coaches and figure skating coaches will assist with instructions during all MDP sessions.

MDP Fall Skills Clinic – Open to players with 2010/2011/2012/2013/2014 birth years (select squirt age players who are new to hockey may also apply – please email directly if interested). The MDP Fall Skills Clinic is for players who can already skate independently and are able to participate in a 50-60 minute practice without assistance from their parents. Program will begin in mid to late September (following conclusion of Mite Travel tryouts) and conclude at the opening of the MDP Winter Season. Fall session will be held one day a week and will include upbeat skill development sessions with a focus on mastering balance and posture, and gaining proficiency in edge work, stride mechanics, and puck handling skills. We will merge the group with Winter Session additions at NCWC opening.

MDP Winter Season – Open to players with 2010/2011/2012/2013/2014 birth years (select squirt age players who are new to hockey may also apply – please email directly if interested). Beginning after the NCWC opening, this program will focus on skill development (2x weekly) with additional cross ice games (1x). Players will be divided by age / skill for practice sessions.  Program will include 3 ice sessions (weekday - Skill Development Session, Saturday - GAME DAY and Sunday - Skills & Games) during the course of the season.

***Pricing for both programs will be announced at a later date and a separate billing process will occur at that time***

THE WINTER SEASON REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO CHILDREN BORN ON OR BEFORE 12/31/2014 AND WHO HAVE SOME SKATING EXPERIENCE.  Supplemental skating lesson classes will be open in September through the NCWC Group Skating program.

In addition, we will continue to look at adding cross ice games with other local youth hockey organizations for our older players as the year progresses as a supplement to the existing program.

We will have more information about parent volunteers as we get closer to our first session.

If you have any questions, please email NCWCMDP@gmail.com.

Please follow the following four (4) steps to register your Travel Hockey Players for both General Registration and their respective Travel Hockey programs at the New Canaan Winter Club.  This process looks more intimidating than it really is and the following steps have been provided to make the process an easier one for you.  Please follow these steps precisely as they will save all of us a lot of time.

  1. Go to www.usahockeyregistration.com and register each hockey player/coach in your family with USA Hockey that will be playing Travel Hockey.  Please make sure you register your player(s) by clicking "Ice Players and Coaches.”  Each player will receive a code that has nine (9) numbers and the first five (5) letters of their last name in it.  It is suggested that you print out the USA Hockey registration confirmation (complete with number and barcode) for your records.  At a minimum, please write down your USA Hockey confirmation number for each child and keep this information available for completing Step 4 in the Winter Club’s registration process.  You will need to pay the $47.50/player USA Hockey registration fee (Including $7.50 for the CHC) via credit card.  Children under the age of 6 are free but they must still be registered.

The fourth digit in your USA Hockey number must be an 9.  This indicates you are submitting a current registration for the 2018-19 season.

  1. Please complete the ONLINE NCWC Consent to Treat and Waiver of Liability form (one per family)   ***You do not need to complete this online form again if you have already completed it for any of your other children's hockey programs in the past 1-2 weeks for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
  1. Register all family members for General Registration 2018-2019, who intend to skate at the Winter Club at anytime during the season, including general skating.

 Please follow these following steps:

  • Go to www.ncwinterclub.com
  • Click on Register Online on the left column
  • Click the 2018-2019 General Registration button
  • Log in by entering email address and your password; if you do not remember your password, then just type in your email address and hit submit.  Your password will be automatically sent to your email address.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE REGISTERING BY USING THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT YOU SENT TO THE WINTER CLUB WHEN YOU FIRST JOINED THE CLUB.  DO NOT REGISTER USING A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS UNLESS THE WINTER CLUB HAS BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT YOUR NEW ADDRESS AND HAS IT ON FILE AS YOUR PRIMARY EMAIL ACCOUNT.
  • Register Parents first as your information will automatically transfer to your children’s account information.  Click on each family member's name that you need to register and follow instructions for completing the Emergency Contact information, Code of Conduct, and Consent to Treat and Waiver of Liability form.  When you are completing the medical information for each child, please type the word NONE in the appropriate boxes if the medical issue does not apply to him or her.  If you do not do this, then the system will not register your child.  Please repeat this step again for each family member if you have not done so already.  Please verify that each family member has been successfully registered by seeing that 2018-2019 General Registration is listed next to or underneath each child’s name.
  1. Register all skaters for their respective MDP program.

***Please note that the system is set up so that you must successfully register for General Registration before you can complete this step***

 Please follow these steps:

  • Click on Register Online on the left column.
  • Click on your child’s respective link: MDP Fall Skills Clinic and/or MDP Winter Season
  • Click on your child's name that you need to register for Mites.
  • Enter your child’s USA Hockey registration number at the bottom of the Participant Information page after you have verified that the information is accurate.  The system will not allow you to finalize your registration unless you provide this information.
  • Double check the information and click submit.  USA Hockey instantaneously verifies that you correctly entered a valid USA Hockey number

Congratulations, you are finished with the entire registration process and confirmation emails will be sent to you!!!

If you have any questions about the registration process, please email the Winter Club’s Registrar at ncwcregistrar@gmail.com
