Nanuet WN 12s Softball falls to defending state champs PRLL

The 12U Nanuet/West Nyack Softball All-Stars District Tournament came to an end in a familiar fashion – another loss to Pearl River in Pearl River 6-1.  Over four seasons of Tournament play PR is the only team to have defeated our girls.

Our girls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Addison Moss drove Autumn Calvello home with a two out single.  Unfortunately that was the only hit the girls would get as PR’s pitcher Kiera Luckie was on her game.

PR got all six runs in the third inning - pitcher Autumn Calvello shut them down in the other five frames.

Outside of the third inning the defense was sharp with smooth plays being turned in by Alexandra McDowell (CF) and the Miller Girls - Taylor (2B), Anna (RF), and Ava (C).

Although they came up short of a championship our girls took us on another great ride. This is a hard-working, fun-loving, dedicated, confident, focused, selfless, loyal, supportive, reliable, respectful, proud group of young ladies.  Over the past three years they have come together to become a true team – one that wins together, losses together and does so with class, dignity and grace.

These girls have been source of pride and were great representatives for our Communities and Little Leagues.

Thanks to the NLL Board for all your support and thanks to all of you who were there to cheer us on.

This has been an incredible experience that you were a big part of.

12U Nanuet/West Nyack Softball All-Stars Win Wild Game!

The 12U Nanuet/West Nyack Softball All-Stars needed 11 runs, 15 hits, 7 innings and tremendous fan support to pull off an amazing come from behind victory over Congers/Stony Point last night at Heroes Field.

Our girls jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first but then managed to play one of the worst defensive half innings possible and were down 6-3. The game bounced back and forth – 6-5, 8-5, 8-6, 9-6, 9-7 until the girls finally tied it at 9 in the fifth on a two out single by Maeghan Nordone.  For the only time all night both teams failed to score in the sixth bringing the game into extra innings. Congers/SP took a 10-9 lead in the top of the seventh setting up the exciting finish.

Alexandra McDowell lead off the bottom of the seventh with her third hit of the game – she stole second and third then scored on Autumn Calvello’s RBI ground out.

Maeghan Nordone reached on an error, Addison Moss followed with a base hit to right. Taylor Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases – with 1 out.

Anna Miller calmly laced her fourth hit of the game driving in Nordone for the walk off win - advancing our girls in the tournament.

Autumn Calvello and Addison Moss battled all night on the mound – they bent but never broke and got stronger as the game went on.

Offensive contributions a plenty –

  • Alexandra McDowell  - 3 for 3, 2BB, 4 runs scored, 6 stolen bases

  • Anna Miller – 4 for 5, 2 RBI

  • Addison Moss – 3 for 5, 2 RBI

  • Maeghan Nordone – 2 for 4, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored

  • Autumn Calvello – single, 2 RBI, scored a run

  • Maggie Lennon – 1 for 3, BB, RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases

  • Emilia Johnson – 1 for 1, run scored, SB

Our defense wasn’t at its best but showed up when needed –

In the top of the fifth trailing 9-7, our girls faced a second and third no out situation. The batter hit a hard shot into the left center field gap that was run down by Alexia Nicolich who quickly got the ball in holding the runners in place.

Then came the play of the season – the batter hit a bullet down the third base line that was for sure a two run double.  Third baseman Maeghan Nordone made an all-out diving stop going toward the bag and in the same motion tagged the runner who was leading off the base.

Two outs but runners still on first and second – ground ball up the middle second baseman Taylor Miller ranged far to her right makes a nice back handed stop and continues to the bag for the force out – inning over.

The girls travel back to enemy territory tonight, Tuesday, June 25 at Pearl River – 7pm

As always your support is greatly appreciated – show up and show off your Black and Gold
