RE: Park City Ice Miner’s Season Update

Dear Park City Ice Miner’s Families,

Park City Ice Miner’s 2018-2019 Youth Hockey Season is underway! The Tier 2, Travel and D1 teams have been busy with pre-season practices and even a few games.  The Division 2 teams started practice last night.  If you know of any kids who are interested in playing recreational hockey, please direct their parents to our website to learn more about our programs and to register.

With the start of the season comes a lot of info, handing out of gear, and filling out forms.  Please make sure you reach out to your team manager if you have questions about practices, games, or forms that are required to be signed before your player gets on the ice.  All forms can be found on our website under DOCUMENTS >> then click on REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS.  If you have any questions about uniform items, please reach out to Yvette Connely at .

The beginning of October also brings our specialty coaches into play. Our 18U, 16U and 14U Tier 2 teams will begin their off-ice training with our Strength Coach, Tyler Kugler.  Josh Angevine and Shannon Bennett will begin skills and power skating-based practices. These practices with our Skills and Power Skating coaches will be on the first and third Tuesdays of each month for our 14U, 12U, and 10U teams. 18U and 16U will have practices with the specialty coaches, but will have various times depending on their practice schedule.  Mark Sample, our new goalie coach, will be on the ice October 16th and 18th to work extensively with our goalies.   He will also be holding a parent’s meeting, Tuesday evening, October 16th from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.  This meeting is for all goalie parents and parents who have players who are interested in playing goalie.  He will be discussing his coaching philosophy and will answer any questions parents might have about goaltending.

As part of our fundraising efforts and to keep costs down, the Ice Miners participate in the YSA Jan’s Winter Welcome (JWW). Our fundraising efforts include selling opportunity drawing tickets for this year’s grand prize, a trip to France for the 2019 Tour de France (you do not have to be present to win this item). Tickets are $50 each and we ask that each player sell 2 tickets to family members or friends.  You can receive hard-copy tickets from your team managers or follow the instructions on the front of our website to have them purchase the tickets on-line.  For players who are interested: for every 5 tickets sold, they will earn a $75 Pure Hockey gift card.

The Park City Ice Miners are also in the process of reviewing any scholarship applications that were submitted for the 2018-2019 Season.  We will be reaching out shortly to the families who have applied.

Games update: The 12U Travel team beat the Boise Jr. Steelheads in a two-game series in mid-September, and the 14U Tier 2 and 16U Tier 2 teams returned Sunday from a round robin in Las Vegas, NV. The 14U Tier 2 team went 1-3, beating the San Jose Jr. Sharks and losing to Vegas, Phoenix and Montana in competitive games. The 16U Tier 2 team went 2-1-1. They beat the Las Vegas Jr. Knights and Team Wyoming, lost to Phoenix 1-0, and lost to San Jose in a shootout. The next tournament for several of our teams will be in mid-October in Phoenix.

I would also like to say thank you to everyone that came out and supported our organization in the Park City Miner's Day Parade!  We handed out 500 hockey pucks to kids along the parade route and passed out over 500 flyers with information about our organization and the Back to Cool event at the Park City Ice Arena that was on September 8th.  Our float/marchers won the category of Best High Energy Float for 2018!  A big thanks to Jason Ford and Jennefer Traeger for arranging all the details and to Ryan Reese for allowing us to use his truck and driving our "hockey float" for the parade.

I hope everyone has all the info they need. But, if not, please don’t hesitate to call/e-mail me or anyone of our board members below!
