Summer is Here

There has been plenty of action this summer for our youth players.

We had a great represenatiation of FHF girls this year at the National Futures Championships (NFC). These girls were part of the Region 11 U-16 Girls team named Mexico City, coached by Malachi Mahan (UC Berkeley) and Stephanie Hussey (UC Davis). The team had FHF representaion by Bella & Ella Ganocy, Jans Croon, Sabine Hommes, Bella Katab, and Sarah Lopez at the tournament that took place from June 21 to June 23, 2018. They finished with a record of 3-2 (https://goo.gl/UhjSxM), which was 3rd place in Pool X and 9th out of 14 teams. They were honored with the Barbara Longstreth Award for Sportsmanship (https://goo.gl/zwj985).

Jans and Sarah were selected for the Stars & Stripes Elite Games (https://goo.gl/eNjvJS), which took place on the final day of competion. Not only did they perform exceptionally well diuring this game, they have been slected for the U-17 Junior National Camp on July 5-8, 2018 (https://goo.gl/jF8q2p). Sarah, Jans, and Bella Ganocy were selected for the U-16 AAU Junior Olympics on July 30-August 2, 2018 to be held at University of Iowa (https://goo.gl/99foo8).

The following FHF girls represented at the National Futures Championship (NFC):

U14: Presley Breslow, Fiene Oerlemans, and Isabella Tolman

U16: Jans Croon, Bella Ganocy, Ella Ganocy, Sabine Hommes, Bella Katab, and Sarah Lopez

U19: Brenna Brophy, Rachel Brown, and Nicole Gotthardt

The U19 girls played very well and finished the tournament in 4th place!

US Men's Junior National Team

Many of our FHF U14 and U18 boys are busy this summer playing in international competions. In July, the US Men's U15 and U18 squads will be playing in the Canadian National Championships in Toronto Canada (July 13rd- July 22nd). See rosters and schedule at https://tinyurl.com/CanadianChampionships

Not long after that tournament is completed, the same squads will be training in Greenwich, CT, as well as competing in a test series against Team Chile (August 5th - August 10th). This is the second in 2-series competition between the two National Squads. Team Chile hosted the first test series in March, 2018.

League Notes

Heads Up - the FHF Concussion Awareness and Policies are available on our Concussion Awareness page, including league protocols for handling suspected concussions.  Parents, please review and acknowledge this policy pertaining to concussions in youth athletes prior to league play this Spring.  Thanks in advance for your help in keeping our players safe.

FHF Meeting - the FHF Board meets monthly on the first Tuesday of each month at Moorpark College, all members are welcome to attend.  The next FHF Board Meetingis is tentatively scheduled for August 28, 2018 @ 7pm.

Edel ID Turf Rules:  FHF Members, as a reminder, our hockey field is brand new and very valuable to all teams and players that participate in the league, from U8's to US National Team members.  The Edel ID turf complies with FIH tournament requirements (meaning we can host and support international hockey tournaments at our field) and was very expensive; please follow these rules to keep our new turf field in good condition:

  • No food or beverages allowed on the field, except water

  • No smoking, glass containers, or gum allowed on the field

  • No dogs are allowed on the field

  • No cleats, high heels, or metal studs/blades are allowed on the field

Thank you for your assistance preserving the hockey turf - we hope to have another decade to enjoy our field hockey pitch at Moorpark College!
