RazorSharks Weekend Preview: Kentucky Thoroughbreds

Thursday, January 11th, 2018 - The Rochester RazorSharks will travel to Owensboro, KY this weekend to face the Kentucky Thoroughbreds in a two-game series this Friday and Saturday.  The first place Thoroughbreds are undefeated so far at 2-0 with both wins coming over the Kansas City Tornados.  Both games were very close, separated by only 5 total points.  Last Wednesday, the Thoroughbreds won by a score of 114-110 and the following day 117-116.  Tyshawn Patterson scored a combined 51 points in both contests, while Fred Sturdivant added 22 and 18-point performances.  The RazorSharks will have to bring their “A” game in order to compete with the league leaders this weekend.

Rochester has had a disappointing 0-3 start to the season and sit in seventh place in the league standings.  Three players were released this past week in response to the poor start:  Deverell Biggs, Supreme Hannah, and veteran Dele Coker.   They have since signed 6’8” forward James Milton out of Stevenson University.  Milton will help make up for depth after losing the physically gifted Dele Coker.

The Sharks’ leading performer to this point has been Nick Waddell, leading the team’s scoring with 52 points through three games.  Waddell has scored 16, 18, and 18 successively and started the year off with 13 and 14 rebound performances.  With the loss of Coker, he, as well as Center Jordan Railey, will be relied upon to police the post, which could be a difficult task this weekend against the high-scoring Thoroughbreds.

Friday and Saturday’s games between the RazorSharks and Kentucky Thoroughbreds will take place at 7:00pmCST at the Owensboro Sportscenter in Owensboro, KY.  Both games will be available to watch live online shortly before tipoff.  Check the RazorSharks website as well as social media for a link directly to the live stream of the game. The Sharks travel to Albany on Monday, January 15th to once again play the Patroons at the Washington Ave Armory at 7:00pmCST. Once the Sharks return home, they will play host to the Kansas City Tornados on Monday January 22nd, who Kentucky narrowly beat in each of their first two games.

RazorSharks Fall to Cardinals in Final Seconds
by posted 01/08/2018

The RazorSharks dropped a heartbreaker last night to the Ohio Cardinals in their third straight loss to start the 2018 season.  The newly formed North American Premier Basketball League has clearly shown a very high level of competition that even the Sharks are struggling to adjust to.  Last night was Rochester’s closest game to this point, losing by just 4 points, 97-93.  The Sharks had a lead down the stretch that reached 9 points, but a questionable no-call on a fairly clear goaltending play went in favor of the Cardinals, which may have played an important role in shifting the momentum.  With 30 seconds left in the game, Ohio guard Jesse Hardin Jr. hit a massive three-pointer from way beyond the arc, breaking the tie and the RazorSharks simply couldn’t respond.

Leading the way for Ohio was forward Richie Gordan III with a 24-point, 10 rebound double-double.  Trailing him was guard Bernard Parks with 23 points of his own.  DJ Blanks had a game high 4 steals.  For Rochester, Nick Waddell was the leading scorer with 17, while also adding 7 rebounds.  Rashard McGill had 16 points followed by Matt Hart’s 15.  Hart, John Ivy, and Melvin Council each added 3 steals.  Jordan Railey led the Sharks with 10 rebounds and had a game high 2 blocks.

The RazorSharks will travel south this weekend to face the Kentucky Thoroughbreds in a two-game weekend series.  Rochester and Kentucky will face off at 7:00pm on Friday, January 12th and Saturday, January 13th.  Links to watch the game will be available on our website and social media outlets as game-time approaches.  The Sharks will not return home until January 22nd, at 7:05pm as they take on the Kansas City Tornados for the first time.  The Sharks will be anxious for revenge after their close battle last night, so reserve your seats today!

Sharks Return to Blue Cross Arena for New Year's Eve Opener
by posted 12/27/2017

A grueling training camp has finally come to a close as the 2016-17 PBL Champion Rochester RazorSharks are ready to return to the Blue Cross Arena.  Sunday, December 31st will be the North American Premier Basketball League’s inaugural game between your RazorSharks and a revitalized Albany Patroons team that returns to the floor for the first time since 2009.  With a star-studded lineup featuring former NBA talents Jamario Moon and Smush Parker, the Patroons will give the Sharks a huge test right out of the gates.  It is sure to be an exciting beginning to the new season.

Rochester’s 2017-18 lineup will be headlined by returning veterans Melvin Council, Dele Coker and last year’s PBL Playoff MVP Jerice Crouch.  Also returning for the Sharks will be guards Deverell Biggs, Melvin Council, Rashard McGill, and last year’s Rookie of the Year John Ivy.  Forward Jordan Railey will also return to the squad for his second straight year.  A huge addition to this year’s team is former Kentucky Maverick Nick Waddell, who has been a major contributor to his teams over the past few seasons.  He finished 2017 with the second highest field goal percentage and the third most rebounds in all of the PBL.

The Albany Patroons return to the professional basketball scene after a decade hiatus.  Originally coached by NBA legends Phil Jackson and George Karl, the Patroons have had a history of success in professional basketball.  Their 2017-18 roster will be extremely competitive with the likes of former NBA Dunk Contest participant Jamario Moon and former Los Angeles Laker Smush Parker.  Also joining them on the floor will be former NBA D-League All-Star and Rookie of the Year Edwin Ubiles.  Ubiles played for the Chautauqua Hurricane last season and finished as the PBL’s fifth leading scorer.  This experienced group will be an exciting matchup for the RazorSharks on opening night and will be fun to watch compete week in and week out all season long.

The NAPBL is thrilled to be here in Rochester and cannot wait to show off what they have to offer in the league's inaugural game this Sunday night!  Tickets for the RazorSharks' New Year's Eve Home Opener against the Albany Patroons are on sale now at the Blue Cross Arena box office.  As always, kids 10 and under are free when accompanied by an adult!  Off the court, there will be two-dollar draft beer specials and kids will be greeted by their favorite princesses from Enchanted Princess Parties of Rochester.  Don't miss any of the fun; get your tickets today!
