A $50 late fee will be charged for registrations after July 23.
Fall ball is a supplemental season where children ages 4 to 11 might play VLL for the first time, repeat at a level, or possibly ‘play up’ at the level they aspire to for the following Spring season. The goal of Fall Ball is player development and the rules are modified to encourage development for both pitchers and position players. We offer Juniors through Majors, play games during September and October, and conclude with a blind-draw tournament for Majors, AAA, and AA.
Because Fall Ball is an instructional season, it has no bearing on a player’s placement for the following Spring.
On or about the final day of the Single A season all Single A teams are invited to the Single A Field Day--a Yeonas Park tradition since 2007. The Single A Field Day consists of skill competitions where the various teams compete against each other to win prizes
Tee Ball and Rookie Day at Yeonas Park
All Tee Ball and Rookie teams gather at Yeonas Park for the finale to their season. Players enjoy misting fans to beat the heat, food and drink is provided for players, coaches and families, and players take home a souvenir.
Come out, watch and cheer on!
Majors, AAA, and AA have their tournaments going on this week. The finals will be:
Majors – June 11th
AAA - June 13th
AA – June 12th
Player & Parent Survey
Thank you for joining us during the Spring 2019 season!
As part of our ongoing effort to improve the VLL experience for all of our members, the Board of Directors encourages you to complete the following survey link before the end of the season.
We all know what a significant impact coaches can have on the development of our children both on and off the field. VLL coaches donate considerable time and effort to the coaching of our children and we want to recognize those that represent the very best of the VLL coaching tradition.
Thus we are now taking nominations for the 2019 Coach of the Year award from each AAA, AA and A leagues. A selection committee will announce the awardees in Diamond Talk and VLL will publish their photos in the 2020 Opening Day program. Criteria include player development, positive reinforcement, role model, etc.
Please send any recommendations, including a brief testimonial as to why your coach should be selected, by June 10 to either of the following Selection Committee members:
Fall Ball Registration for ALL LEVELS is Open
Some of our most exciting Spring baseball is yet to be played, but it’s not too early to be thinking about fall baseball! Vienna Little League is excited about our Fall Ball 2019 Program, with registration open now thru early August. Early sign-up is strongly encouraged to guarantee your son or daughter a spot and to save some money.
This fall, we are bringing back our Fall Juniors program for players who were League Ages 4 and 5 this Spring. The Fall Juniors program will operate in a Sunday afternoon-only format, with 90 minute afternoon sessions consisting of a 30 minute practice and a 60 minute game. This is a great way for our youngest VLL’ers to stay involved with the sport in a fun, condensed format.
For our traditional levels (Single A - Majors), VLL is committed to the developmental aspect of Fall Ball, and will continue to supplement our fall offerings to include Friday night instructional clinics from local high school, college, and professional coaches. These levels offer twice-weekly games, and scheduled practice days/times – typically a practice during the week, a weekday game, and a Saturday game (Majors will play games twice during the week in lieu of Saturdays). Games start after Labor Day and run thru the end of October.
We have created an FAQ page to address the most common questions we receive - please take a few minutes to read thru them.
As always, we are very excited about Fall Ball and continue to improve our approach – featured instruction, more flexibility in team formation, and programs for all ages. We hope you choose to sign up your son or daughter, and we encourage you to do so very soon. Registration is located on the VLL.org homepage or directly via THIS LINK.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Fall season in VLL
What levels are offered for Fall Ball?
Fall Ball offers Juniors, Single A, AA, AAA, and Majors. Single A thru Majors are primarily for players who were League Ages 6 thru 11 for the Spring 2019 season. Juniors is primarily for players who were League Age 4 or 5 for the Spring 2019 season. League Age can be verified using the table HERE.
Juniors will embark on its second season in Fall 2019. It operates in a Sunday afternoon-only format, with 90 minute afternoon sessions consisting of a 30 minute practice and a 60 minute game. Most players will have played T-Ball in the Spring. Batters will hit from a tee to promote pace of play.
Single A is coach pitch, while AA thru Majors are kid pitch. These levels offer twice-weekly games, and scheduled practice days/times – typically a practice during the week, a weekday game, and a Saturday game (Majors will play games twice during the week in lieu of Saturdays).
What’s different between Spring Baseball and Fall Ball?
Fall Ball is a much more relaxed, “supplemental” season where we try to focus on the developmental aspect of the game. For example, standings are not kept at any level to encourage managers to give players opportunities to play different positions in a less competitive environment.
Also, the levels offered for our younger players are a bit different. In the Fall, we offer Juniors and Single A to cover League Ages 4 thru 8 - Juniors uses a tee, while Single A is coach pitch. In the Spring, League Ages 4 thru 8 are further differentiated into T-Ball, Rookie, and Single A levels. As such, certain players may, for example, play Single A in the Fall then Rookie Ball the following Spring.
How long is the Fall season?
Teams will form in mid to late August, at which time you will receive an email from your son/daughter’s manager. Games start after Labor Day and run thru the end of October.
When can I register my son or daughter for Fall Ball?
Registration opens on 6/1 each year and runs thru early August. A late fee applies for all registrations after 8/1. Sign up early to save money and ensure a spot for your son or daughter. Fall Ball can sell out.
Are there tryouts for Fall Ball?
Can I request a specific manager or teammate for my son or daughter?
For our Juniors and Single A levels, we do our best to form teams with manager, teammate, and other requests in mind. These requests can be noted in the Preferred Manager and Registration Comments section at sign-up, or by logging back into VLL.org and editing a submitted registration. AA thru Majors are traditionally formed via draft, so specific requests typically cannot be honored.
Can I manage a team?
Interested managers should email our Fall Ball Directors, Andy Dinn () and Patrick Dorsey ().
My son or daughter’s registration is “waitlisted” – what does that mean?
Typically, a waitlisted registration indicates a player lives outside the Vienna Little League boundary. These players may only participate with proper documentation that confirms he or she attends a school within the Vienna Little League boundary. Waitlisted registrations are reviewed manually, and will typically be resolved within 3-5 days. VLL will contact the parent if additional information is needed.
Can my son or daughter move “up” in the Fall?
The ability for players to participate in the next level (e.g. movement from AA to AAA) is on a space-available basis, and subject to the team formation process for each level. The majority of players play at the same level as they did in the Spring.
How does Fall Ball impact my son or daughter’s Spring 2020 placement?
Fall Ball is considered a supplemental season. As such, it has no bearing on a player’s Spring placement.
Example 1: A player who was League Age 6 in Spring 2019 may participate in Single A in Fall 2019. The following spring, in this case Spring 2020, Vienna Little League offers two levels for this age - Rookie Ball and Single A. The majority of players will play Rookie Ball, while a limited number may play Single A - the latter is strictly limited to 2-3 players per team.
Example 2: A player who was League Age 7 in Spring 2019 may request to participate in AA in Fall 2019. This player would be placed on a AA team on a space available basis. In Spring 2019, this player must tryout and be drafted by a AA team to play AA.
How else can I help?
VLL is an all-volunteer organization, so we have ample opportunities for parents to help. Several options can be chosen on the registration form, and you will be contacted for that role when we need you.
