2018 Keystone State Games

Tournament Dates:

July 28th & 29th, 2018 (waiting on confirmation)

Luzerne County, PA

WPYLA Coaches and League Representatives:

This is an announcement to notify you of this year’s try-outs for the 2018 Western PA Middle School Keystone State Lacrosse Games team.

Disclaimer: We must advise that Keystone State Games organizers still have not officially confirmed and posted dates and venue of the lacrosse games. We have received a written confirmation that lacrosse will be played at the Keystone State Games in Luzerne County. We do not want to delay nominations and try-outs for the Middle School Keystone Team, so are hoping to have more details at the time of try-outs. We apologize for the inconvenience. Based on past history of this event, it is likely the lacrosse games will be played the weekend of July 28th & 29th (the Keystone State Games will be held the week of July 25-30).

Each program will be able to nominate No More Than Six Players.  These players must be nominated by their coach and their names, grade, age and contact information (to include email and phone) must be submitted to the league.

Who is eligible to try-out?

  • Players must currently be in 7th or 8th grade
  • These players must be members of programs "in good standing" with the WPYLA
  • They must be residents of Pennsylvania
  • The players must provide their U.S. Lacrosse number, which must be valid through the end of July 2018
  • The number of players per program (not per team) are limited to six players to participate in the try-outs

NOTE:  Coach is encouraged to check with the prospective player’s family about their commitment to the team before being nominated.  Practice is mandatory and a 100% availability and commitment must be there.

When are the try-outs?

  • The first try-out will be held on Wednesday, May 30th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for all nominated players. Registration will begin at 5:30 PM.
  • After the May 30th try-out, first cuts will take place and 40 finalists will be invited to the final Monday, June 4th try-out, also from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Following this try-out, the final roster of 22-25 will be selected by the evaluators.
  • It is mandatory to attend both try-out sessions.
  • To try-out, please register online at http://wpyla.org/Registration/Default.asp?org=WPYLA.ORG

IMPORTANT:   This is the only opportunity to try-out. The team is going to be picked based on the players available and who participated at the try-outs. There is no exception to this in the event of injury, illness or any other commitments.

Where are the try-outs being held?

Graham Park

400 Graham Park Drive

St Vincent Tournament Cancellation
by posted 02/07/2018

WPYLA Members,

Our annual St. Vincent Tournament and our participation in the Keystone State games will not occur this year.

We all know that WPYLA runs on a volunteer basis, without volunteers we can not provide the same level of participation.

It is very unfortunate but without volunteers we can not fill all of the vacancies, yet we  have not had anyone step up and offer to lead either program.
