2019s at Champions Cup

The Quaker City 2019s went undefeated for the 2nd weekend in a row going 4-0 at the IWLCA Junk Brands Capital Cup in steamy Midlothian, VA.  After enduring the painful traffic-filled car ride down to Richmond, the girls got their legs under them for an 8 PM game.  With the roar of the painfully loud Friday Night Races at the Southside Race Track next door making hearing the whistle almost impossible, the girls recovered from a slow start to pull away from a 3-1 Storm Elite squad 14-6.  On Saturday, the girls won both games in the heat, 13-7 over Dodgers Blue and a squeaker over LBC 7-6.  In their exciting getaway game on Sunday Morning, after Bay Area Lacrosse Club rallied to tie the game at 9, the team of Amelia Coursen and Emily Stewart controlled the last 3 draw controls resulting in 3 straight goals to close out the game 12-9.

The 2020s

Congratulations to the Quaker City 2020s on going 3-0-1 at the Mid Atlantic Showcase at The McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD this weekend.   An offensive uprising from Defenders turned Midfielders Maddie Henderson (Harriton), Lucy Dwyer (Harriton), and Curran McLaughlin (Germantown Friends) led the scoring for QC.  Another converted Middie, this time from attack, Maya LeBlanc (Haverford) seemed to find a comfort level in the new position that led to a multiple goals.  On attack, lefty Willa Hetznecker (Haverford) and Thea Volpp (Friends Central) were a consistent threats over the 2 days. On defense, GKs Alex Turner (Harriton) and Kaitlyn Giandomenico (Hatboro Horsham) were both outstanding and had help from strong defensive efforts from Kat Berberian (Harriton), and Sophia Hood (Harriton).  It was great team effort and a dramatic improvement over last year's Mid Atlantic Showcase!
