Each year volunteers will need to fill out and submit a volunteer application or a returning volunteer application to the league president along with a photocopy of their driver's license or valid government issued ID.
The president will run background checks on all volunteers, both new and returning, via First Advantage through the Little League International website's Data Center.
In the past there have been people concerned about providing their Social Security numbers (not required on the returning volunteer form), which are mandatory in order to carry out the background check. If you cannot or do not wish to provide a SSN, you will not be allowed to work with the children.
Volunteer forms are scanned and kept in a secure file by the league president and then the paper copies are shredded. Your SSNs are completely safe and entered in the system only once. After this is done once, in subsequent years of volunteering the returning volunteer application is all that is necessary as First Advantage has each volunteer's info for background checks, which are run again with a simple click of a button on the site.
This is a simple and safe process, and no one can access the data center and background check service without a login in the first place.
