Your Festival Host—Dragonheart Vermont
Dragonheart Vermont is one of Vermont’s most dynamic 501(c)3 non-profits. We strive to provide support, hope, fitness, and camaraderie to breast cancer survivors in our community through the challenging sport of dragon boating. The organization has also expanded its team-building mission to include supporters. Both our paddling skills and our membership have grown over the years, and continue to grow. We now stand at 200 people paddling on 10 different teams, depending on age, interest, and abilities. Together, our Dragonheart Vermont teams have made their mark on this sport. We have won GOLD medals on the national and international level.
Paddling as a team is just part of the story. The core of Dragonheart’s mission is to give back to the community. The Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival gives back in two ways: it introduces people to the sport of dragon boating for fun and fitness, and it raises money to help cancer survivors in our Vermont community.
The 2018 Festival Pledge Partner will be the Integrative Therapies at the UVM Cancer Center. While cancer therapy has improved cancer outcomes, cancer and its treatment often come with significant challenges. Integrative Therapies at the UVM Cancer Center provides acupuncture, yoga, massage, mindfulness and other therapies to cancer patients and survivors. These integrative therapies have a proven track record for controlling pain, fatigue and other side effects while improving psychological outlook and quality of life.
Our goal this year is to raise $200,000 for Dragonheart Vermont and for Integrative Therapies at the UVM Cancer Center. Join us for lots of fun and the best cause of all: spreading support and joy to our local cancer survivors as they fight the toughest battle imaginable.
