MARA Colts Football gives every boy and girl
Matthews Athletic and Recreation Association (MARA) was founded in 1956 for the purpose of providing the youth in Matthews/Mecklenburg County area an organized association for sports and recreational activities. Located at Arthur Goodman Park, MARA provides a balance of strong leadership and an involved community.
Over 350 children play football at MARA
Financial Aid (scholarships) offered to those in need
Program is funded by a combination of activity fees and donations
Funds collected are used for field and building maintenance, equipment repair and replacement, player financial aid, and required administration expenses (e.g., coach background checks, utilities, and insurance)
In my 8 years here I have had the opportunity to see so much come of the sponsorships and donations made to MARA. These include creating the Bambino Baseball program for physically and developmentally challenged local youth, new equipment that allows us to better maintain our fields keeping them safe for play (eliminating humps, lips and holes), replacing our out-dated football helmets, adding the state of the art lightning detection system to better protect the membership and building the new bathrooms. As a self sufficient organization, we are dependent on activity fees for the fundamental basics but for ensuring we have a clean, safe facility for our kids to play at and our members to enjoy, we look to our sponsors and donors to enable the future of MARA.
T. Franco (past president, MARA)
MARA has been and continues to be one of the most rewarding uses of my time and energy and provides me the ability to have a positive impact on thousands of children and families in our community. Sponsorship of MARA provides our coaches the right equipment to keep kids engaged and active and provides our board the funding necessary to improve our facilities and offerings to the community. I am proud of what the organization has accomplished since its inception in 1956 and the countless number of children that have been impacted positively and grown into successful adults. None of this would be possible without the support of the organizations in our community who choose give back to the community and MARA.
