Welcome to Lee County Lacrosse Club or as we call ourselves THE SHARKS!!!
We are a youth sports club promoting boys lacrosse. The club is open to boys from ages 6-15.
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States and Southwest Florida is joining the trend. Our club was founded in the spring of 2005, when we held several introductory clinics. It has grown to well over two hundred participants a season since then.
Below are some frequently asked questions - with answers - about our league:
Who is Eligible to Play in with the Sharks?
Boys ages 6-15. No prior experience playing lacrosse is necessary. No players on high school teams may participate.
Is there Travel Involved?
There is limited travel in our league, it is within Southwest Florida. Practice always takes place at the team's home field, Villas Elementary School. However, games may be played at any of locations with teams participating in our division. For example, a Sharks team may play an away game at the Gorillas field, which is Three Oaks Park in San Carlos. We also play CCLA, which have multiple field locations in Naples Or Buckingham for Ballistic.
The league may also schedules non-league games with teams from other parts of the state, in order to provide our players a chance to match their skills with players from other leagues. Those games do not apply to our regular season games or standings.
Are there Try-Outs?
All players will be permitted onto a team, as long as there is space. REGISTER EARLY and avoid the possibility of missing the program. Our league is well-established, our teams fill up fast, all players are encouraged to register early to ensure a place on a team. It is very difficult to add teams as we get close to the start of the season, due to the complexity of scheduling fields, practices and games. So, again, the message is, register early... DON'T MISS OUT! If we have enough players and coaches for multiple teams in the same age bracket we will split the teams into an A and B team. Higher skill players will be in the A team. US lacrosse has determined that splitting the team by skill level helps all youth players develop better.
Are Players Guaranteed Playing Time?
The short answer is NO. But we try. It is our league's mission to instill a love of lacrosse in all its players. That happens if they are out on the field playing, so all our coaches try to balance playing time for all players regardless of skill. We encourage the coaches to help advance newer players skills during practices and scrimmages to help build their confidence and balance their playing time. Winning games does not supersede the mission of good sportsmanship and building a strong foundation for the future growth of our league. Everyone develops at a different pace, our goal is to teach the basics as well as develop more advanced training to all players. We are a youth organization and are constantly balancing new players with seasoned players.
With that said, players who fail to attend practice, or do not display good sportsmanship and behavior at practice and/or games, will jeopardize their playing time.
Who are the Coaches and What Should I Expect of Them?
Our coaches are volunteers. Many of them have backgrounds playing and/or coaching lacrosse. Some of them are new to the game but have coached other sports.
The league places tremendous value on the proper selection and training of coaches. We emphasize such things as sportsmanship, the Code of Conduct and the Zero Tolerance Policy, in addition to proper youth lacrosse techniques.
We expect our coaches to all be role models; but please remember they are also human. They will make mistakes and they may have certain methods that not all parents agree with. Concerns about a coach should be directed first to a team mom and then they will direct you to a board member. All positions are voluntary and should be respected as such.
All of our coaches are required to have US Lacrosse membership, a background check and have knowledge of the sport.
