Ages: Generally 8 and under.
Ice Time: Approximately two sixty minute practices including skills clinics and one league half-ice game per week.
Location: Area rinks.
Schedule: Approximately September thru Beginning of March.
Registration Open: Mid-January through March.
Evaluations: We do not have try-outs - any player who registers for this program will be placed onto a team. Evaluations will be held for this program at the end of February to determine the skill level of each player.
Description: Players entering the Mite level are expected to have learned the basics of hockey and have a fundamental skating ability with some capability to stick handle and shoot the puck. Players on Mite teams will be participating in a new Half-Ice In-House Hockey League for game play. Most of the games will be on Saturday with some on Sunday and are hosted at local rinks. Games will be played half-ice with certified referees. Game jerseys and socks will be provided for each player - and are included in the cost of tuition.
Practices are held primarily at the Groton School and Lawrence Academy. The number of teams will be dependent on the number of children registered. Teams will consist of between 8 and 10 skaters. Game play will be through Valley Hockey League http://www.valleyhockeyleague.com
In addition to league play, each Mite team will have the opportunity to participate in the Crusaders Youth Hockey's Christmas Tournament (Tourney in the Woods) which is held each year from December 26th thru December 30th. The tournament provides a minimum of three games, with a potential fourth game if the team makes the finals.
Goal of this level is to:
- Develop skating and puck control skills of the individual player
- Basic shooting and passing skills
- Develop the concept of skating lanes (spread out) and team play (passing)
Players will be rotated into different positions including the goalie position throughout the season to start learning the skills needed for each position.
Tuition: 2017-2018 season $1250 - tuition is subject to change each season
