Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What grade does my child have to be in to play tackle football?
A: The AWA offers tackle football for children in grades 3 - 8. We do, sometimes, combine grades if there aren't enough participants for a given grade. For instance, we would field a 5th/6th grade if there were not enough registrations in either grade to field a full team.
Q: What is the price of registration?
A: We charge a fee of $400 for registration. This includes a helmet, practice and game uniforms and pads. We hold onto a check for $200 as a deposit for the equipment. We do not cash this check UNLESS the equipment is NOT returned at the end of the season.
Q: What equipment will my child need?
A: We provide a helmet, practice and game uniforms, and pads. All equipment is checked for safety and refurbished every year by a company certified to refurbish equipment. You will need to provide a plain black game socks, a cup, a girdle for the cup, a mouthguard and cleats. These are mandatory and your child CANNOT play without them.
Q: What if I cannot afford the registration fee?
A: There is a financial assistance form on our "documents" tab on the left hand menu of the AWA homepage. Please fill that out and return it asap. This is a confidential request. Anyone receiving financial assistance is required to perform 10 volunteer hours. Request must be received by July 15, 2018.
Q: When does football start?
A: The 2018 season will start August 1st. There is a mandatory validation meeting for players and coaches on August 18th.
Q: When and where are the practices and games?
A: Practices are held at Vet's Field in Easton behind the Easton Community Center. Sometimes we will have a Friday practice at Joel Barlow High School so the players can go to the high school game after practice is over.
Prior to the start of school, practices run Mon-Fri from 6 - 8 pm. After school starts, we will practice Tues, Thurs and Fri from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Practice times and location are subject to change based on weather cancellations and at the coaches' discretion.
Home games will be played on the turf field at Joel Barlow High School or at Vet's Park in Easton if the turf field is not available on Saturdays or Sundays.
Practices are mandatory. If your player misses practices, he/she may miss out on playing time as well.
Q: My child has decided not to play. How do I get a refund?
A: The refund request document is found under the "documents" tab found under the AWA homepage. We give a 100% refund to all requests submitted prior to the start of the regular season. Our season starts on August 1st this year. We give a 50% refund to all requests submitted before August 31st. There will be NO refunds after August 31st.
