MEET THE COACHES (DRAFT- 8/31/2015, not updated for 2016)
WTYFC has put together an extraordinarily experienced and strong football coaching staff for 2015 with a mix of both parent and non-parent coaches on every team. The station practice philosophy focused on techniques and fundamentals that utilize all of the coaches working together across the teams will ensure that consistent techniques and skill will be universal in the organization. WTYFC is committed to sharing expertise across the organization.
Please see Coaching at WTYFC for the Coaching Requirements that these individuals have all met. You'll note that in addition to traditional back-ground checks, CPR/First Aide Training, Concussion Awareness Training, USA Football Coach certification etc, that these coaches spend a lot of time in hands-on training with the WHS Program over the summer, receiving specific instruction from the WHS Head Coach.
WTYFC President, Henry Moniz, along with Commissioner Mark Keeney, have worked months with coaches and families to identify the best coaches available for each grade. Mark is specifically jumping in and working on the coaching staffs of the lower level teams, and Tony is on the field overseeing all of the teams and jumping him to assist as necessary. Coach Lawrence has been a WTYFC head coach since the program’s inception in 2012. Prior to that he served as a head coach for AWA and coached Weston Little League baseball. Fred was a member of the varsity football and wrestling teams while attending high school in Port Washington, NY. Played rugby first at SUNY Cortland, followed by the University of Salamanca in Spain and then with the New York Rugby Club for 15 years.
This is Coach Garett's second year in WTYFC. He is a non-parent Coach and Weston resident. (more to follow)
Coach Joyce was an Assistant Coach on the WTYFC 5th grade teaim in 2014, and 4-5th grade team in 2013, and prior to that was both a Flag Head Coach, and the WYTFC Flag Program Coordinator in 2012. He is a 22 year teacher of mathematics at the middle school and high school level, and continues to teach math at WHS. Coach Joyce played football, baseball, and track in high school, and has coached in all three sports at the youth level, including JV baseball in both Danbury and Weston, and some form of Cal Ripkin, LL, and/or Babe Ruth for the past nine years.
This is Coach Kelly's first year in WTYFC. (Non-parent, more to follow.)
Coach Keeney is currently the WTYFC Football Commissioner and has served as a Weston High School Assistant Varsity Coach since 2008 to present day, and Junior Varsity Head Coach since that time until 2013. He has worked numerous youth football camps teaching kids the proper way to play the game of football including technique and tackling. Coach Keeney is the former President of Aspetuck Wildcats Association (AWA), and coached there for several years through both Pop Warner and AYF. He is an avid sports fan that has played both high school and college baseball as well as coaching youth baseball in his younger days. He has served on the executive board for Colonial Football League and Weston Little League Baseball and was instrumental in helping to set-up WTYFC in 2012.
Read Hubbard has extensive experience coaching football and lacrosse at the youth level. He has coached A team Travel Lacrosse in Darien for 7 years and volunteered in Fairfield, Westport and Bridgeport. He has coached youth football in Darien for two years as well. Read graduated from King Low Heywood Thomas where he played and captained the football, basketball and lacrosse teams. He was all-league (2x) and all-state in football. He was all-league in basketball (3x). Read was all-league (4x), all-state (2x) and All-America Finalist (2x) in lacrosse. Read played varsity football and lacrosse at Harvard College, earning 8 letters and All-Ivy honors in football.
Core Beliefs: Read believes in teaching responsibility and accountability through sport. He emphasizes and rewards effort, attitude and enthusiasm as well as ability and athleticism.
Professional/Personal: Read is a Weston resident since 2012. He grew up in Stamford and still has family there. Read is an Advisor at Merrill Lynch servicing the needs of businesses and families. Prior to that, he was head of trading at Eos Partners in New York. Prior to that, he practiced corporate law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Clifford Chance.
Coach Terry is currently an Assistant Coach for WHS, joining Coach Pace’s staff in 2014. He has been a non-parent WTYFC coach since 2012. Coach Terry played linebacker and offensive line for the WHS football team in Weston, CT, where he won the Trojan Award for the player who best demonstrates what it means to be a Trojan as determined by coaches and teammates. As a youth, he played on the Aspetuck Valley Pop Warner teams.

Henry coached the 7th grade WTYFC football team in 2014, and has coached numerous youth teams in a variety of sports over the years including: soccer, football, baseball and basketball. He played basketball and track and field in high school and college. He continued to play basketball competitively until recently, and football, baseball and soccer occasionally at more casual levels.
Tara has been involved with youth cheer in Weston since it's 2012 inception and started as a board member and parent. She was the Assistant Coach for the WTYFC 2014 National Champion competition team and her oldest daughter continues to cheer and captain the 2015 WTYFC Competition team.
Jennifer has been involved with WTYFC Cheer for the past two years as an active mom with two girls participating on minis and the sideline team.
This Holly's first year in the WTYFC program and she brings a lot of enthusiasm and fresh energy.
Roseleen Kelly Lovett - the team manager. Roseleen has been involved with the cheer mini's program since her daughter's first year in 2014, and is stepping up now as a dedicated volunteer.
Tara, Jennifer, Holly and Roseleen bring an enthusiasm and warmth to our introductory program for our youngest cheerleaders.
Blue Cheer (Gr 3, 4, 5):
Kelley Coleman - HC
Coach Kelley has coached Sideline Cheer since the WTYFC program started in 2012. She is also the Weston High School Trojans Cheer Coach, and a favorite Hurlbutt Elementary School teacher during the day.
Lisa Hall Babcock
Lisa has been a coach with the WTYFC Sideline Team since 2013.
Amy Otworth - the team manager. Amy coached the Cheer Minis in 2014, and is the successful WTYFC Fundraising chairperson.
Kelley, Lisa & Amy bring a level of experience to our sideline team which enables them to develop the necessary skills to move into this next level of cheer.
Competition (Gr 6, 7, 8)
"Maria" is well known across the country for the many National Cheer Competition Cheer trophies her teams have won, beginning in 2005 at AWA. Maria was a former cheerleader, her oldest daughters went on to cheer at Lehigh College, and her youngest daughter Caroline cheers year round at Xtreme Cheer where she also coaches a Special Needs team.
Lisa Liebow - HC
Lisa has been a youth cheerleading coach since 2006, and worked with Maria for the past many years also winning several National Championships. Both of her daughters cheered and won competitive national titles in youth, and went on to cheer at Weston High School.
Both Maria & Lisa bring a depth of knowledge about the rigors and excitement of competitive cheer.
