Oct. 20, 2016

Dear Wildcat Families,

Congratulations to all of our teams for their wins last weekend. We now have 5 teams headed to tournament finals.

A few items for this week:

Conduct at Edmonds Stadium (and all playfields)
The Wildcats have four teams – 89ers, Peewees, Bantams, and Juniors playing at Edmonds this Saturday. Please read the attached flyer Edmonds asked us to share with our families.

It calls for everyone to be respectful of the property and mindful of behavior as visitors. The Edmonds school district cited the NJFL for the following issues earlier this season at their stadium. Fields are a premium and we must do all we can to maintain our use.

  • Food and beverage left on the track and field
  • Damage to a track pad and other equipment from kids playing behind the stadium
  • Smoking on school property

Protocol for Addressing Concerns
Reminder: if you have a concern, please address with your coach first before coming to a board member. If you have a concern about an incident that occurred during a Saturday game, please address with your coach on Tuesday.

End of Season Celebration – Nov. 19 at 1 p.m.
Mark your calendars and join us for lunch and an awards program. RSVP: http://evite.me/kEex4swz5H

Send Us Your Best Bits
Send your season’s best photos and video clips to be include in the end of season slideshow. Email westseattlewildcats@gmail.com.

Raffle Winner
Thanks to all those who participated in our raffle last weekend. The winner of the $75 gift certificate to Cactus Restaurants was John Cheha, grandpa to 89er Lukas Cheha #16.

See you tonight,

West Seattle Jr. Football & Cheer Board of Directors

Jamboree Shout Outs and Thank Yous
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers that made this year's NJFL South Football Jamboree a smashing success! This year’s jamboree coordinator, Harriette Killham, did a bang up job.

Big shout outs to Michelle McBreen, Eric Heathershaw, Shirley Clough, Mary Browning, Valerie, Terri, Marybeth, Annette Phillips, David Hohimer and his family and countless others that made the concession stand run efficiently and smoothly. Another big thank you to coaches that helped managed the field: Joel Gaither, Earnest Phillips, Ron Young, Baye Rife and Eric Everson. Thanks to Barb Childs for the hours spent helping with weigh-in, team moms and coaches who helped line up players and to Michelle Gaither for preparing each player’s paperwork. Thank you to Sammy Tino and Kyler Gaither for running the clock and making announcements. To Chase Gaither for recording games and the countless players who did not give any guff when Harriette put a trash bag in their hand asked them to help clean up the stands. To Gerard Denommee for his graphic skills on our new gear, setting up our online store, and manning the Wildcat Fan Gear tent. And to the cheerleaders and their coaches for hosting a bake sale.

Special thanks to all the families who contributed bags of clothing and textiles to our drive and to Michelle Gaither for heading up the effort. We loaded the truck with approx. 300 bags. We can still add to our amount, so keep the bags a coming. We also want to thank our community partners, UW and Seattle Children’s Hospital for the onsite athletic trainers, and media outlets that shared our event in their postings and publications: West Seattle Blog and West Seattle Herald.

It takes a village to pull off this event and we are grateful to players, parents, and families who pitched in to make it a success. Jamboree photos are posted on our Facebook page. Please share your photos with us.

Play on,

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you are enjoying your summer. August is coming quickly and we are looking forward to kicking off our season. We want to make sure you are in the loop with the details of the season, so expect a weekly update email from the West Seattle Wildcats.

This week, we have a few important reminders.

Practice Info
Practice begins on Aug. 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Hiawatha Field. Players should have shorts, shirt, cleats, and lots of water. You may also bring a mouth guard (without the helmet-connector piece), but this is not required. Players will receive a mouth guard with their helmet. The first several days of practice will be “non-contact” with some light hitting on padded dummies. The focus is on fundamentals and conditioning.

There’s still room for more players
Although teams are filling up, we do have spots open. Tell your friends and neighbors about the Wildcats and direct them to our website to sign up.

Volunteer to Coach
We have great coaches lined up for the season, but we could always use more. We welcome anyone who has the desire and commitment to make a positive impact on the youth in our community.
