The original youth lacrosse organization in the state, Boys Youth Lacrosse of Washington (BYLW), has promoted and developed the first teams into over 200 youth teams last year. It is credited with the foundation and the early development of every current youth program in western Washington. With this expanding growth of players, coaches, teams, and programs, the development of geographical regional leagues has become a necessity to coordinate the expanding youth lacrosse boundaries. The increasing need for coordination and volunteers will better be served with these leagues. Joining the GELL and SMYLA, the South Sound Lacrosse League has begun their regional focus through the birth of SSLL with charter members formerly associated with the BYLW.
