Stamford Girls Softball Divisions

Rookie Division - This Division of Stamford Girls Softball is for players Ages 4-7 yrs old as of December of the prior calendar year. There are no try-outs for this division.  It is mainly an introductory, instructional division that consists of coach pitching using a Softie ball.   The girls are taught the basics of softball and team sportsmanship. All girls are placed on a team.   Most games and practices are scheduled for weekend mornings. A team mother is required for each team.

Mini Division - This Division of Stamford Girls Softball is for players Ages 8-10 yrs old as of December of the prior calendar year.  This age group uses an 11” softball with live pitching and builds on the fundamentals of the game. If you are new to this division you must try out.  All girls are selected to a team. SGS also offers a 10 and under (10-U) All Star team. Interested girls MUST tryout for the 10-U All Star team at the end of the regular season. A team mother is required for each team.

Minor Division - This Division of Stamford Girls Softball is for players Ages 11-13 yrs old as of December of the prior calendar year.  This age group uses a 12” softball and is more competitive than the Mini division.  More advanced skills (e.g., sliding and bunting) are taught and sportsmanship is impressed upon. If you are new to this division you must try out.  All girls are selected to a team. SGS also offers a 12 and under (12-U) All Star team.  Interested girls MUST tryout for the 12-U All Star team at the end of the regular season.

Major Division  - This Division of Stamford Girls Softball is for players Ages 14-18 yrs old as of December of the prior calendar year. If you are new to this division you must try out.  All girls are selected to a team. This is the most competitive division in SGS.  At this level, girls are able to steal, slide, and bunt. Fastpitch is thrown by most pitchers.  SGS also offers a 14 and under (14-U) and 16 and under (16-U) All Star team.  Interested girls MUST tryout for 14-U and 16-U All Star teams at the end of the regular season.
