The WHS varsity ice hockey team made the CIAC playoffs for the first time in 5 years in the 2008-2009 hockey season.  A group of talented 2009 players graduated, leaving the core of the team to move forward.  After a successful fall hockey season and tryouts just after Thanksgiving, the team was ready to not only match but to improve upon the accomplishments of last year.  The Warriors, through their first 10 games, went 8-2 with an explosive offense led by senior Nick Sinsigalli.  Classmates Josh Fingeret, Tim Maher, Paul Donahue, John Hoag, and Andrew Onderdonk also added to the offensive effort.  On defense, junior goaltender, Kevin O’Connell, was consistently on top of his game.  Captains Chris Kachadoorian (Sr.) and Pat Holland (Jr.) led a group of aggressive defensemen.  Senior Austin Gambee stepped up and contributed greatly to the success of the team in his first season on the team.  With 3 games remaining and CIAC playoffs already clinched, the Warriors achieved all that they had hoped for and more.  At 11-6 (as of 2-26-10), the ice hockey team reasserted itself as an FCIAC force.  The team tallied seven straight wins in January, including a momentous win over powerhouse St. Joe’s.  The young men in the varsity ice hockey team made the 2009-2010 hockey season a memorable season in many respects.
