Practice Schedule
Practices generally speaking are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Nashoba Brooks School for 3/4 grade, and from 6:00 - 7:30 pm for 5/6 grade and 7/8 grade at CCHS turf 2 and lower grass fields (alternating).  Pioneer practices are on Mondays from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at CCHS Lower Grass Fields.

CCYL Program Information
The CCYL Girls Program offers lacrosse to girls in grades 3 through 8, in an instructional, non-competitive league which focuses on player development.  The players are separated into three different age groups - Grades 3/4, Grades 5/6 and Grades 7/8.  CCYL creates EQUAL and BALANCED teams in each age group - mixing ages and abilities.  No experience is necessary.  New lacrosse players are always welcome.

The Spring 2011 season starts in early April and runs through mid June, ending with an enormously fun Jamboree.  Practices are held two times per week with one game per week.  Practices generally speaking are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 pm for 3/4 grade, and from 6:00 - 7:30 pm for 5/6 grade and 7/8 grade.  Games are held on Sunday afternoons between 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  There will be some pre-season indoor sessions held in March/April for each of the age groups.  All registering players will receive a CCYL practice pinney.

Pioneer Program for 7/8 Grade
Girls in grades 7/8 will also be given the opportunity to join in a supplemental competitive lacrosse program called Pioneers.  The Pioneer Program entails one additional practice per week and also one additional game per week (games typically on Friday evenings but this may vary).  Tryouts for Pioneer Program will be held late December or early January.  Anyone interested in playing in the Pioneer Program must also play in the CCYL 7/8 grade program.  There will be an additional cost to play in the Pioneer Program.

Equipment
Full equipment is required in order to participate in each session.  For girls, necessary equipment includes: regulation girls crosse/lacrosse stick, mouthguard, protective eyewear/goggles, and practice pinney.  For games, each player should wear the CCYL uniform (available for purchase in the registration process).  Gloves are optional (gloves are more commonly used in grade 7/8 program and for especially cold days; boys lacrosse gloves are not acceptable).

Clinics Galore - Why so many coaching clinics?
There are indeed a lot of clinics for coaches.  Why?  We want to help you develop as a coach because that will make for a better experience for our players.  Keep in mind that there are different kinds of clinics.

There are short 2-hour clinics which are great refreshers and starter clinics.  For two hours, you get non-stop drills and technical instruction.  The ones we are telling you about are free.

There are also US Lacrosse Instructional Clinics (Level 1 and Level 2) - each of these is an 8-hour training session.  They cost money (CCYL will reimburse you for the registration fee).  And we want our CCYL coaches to take the US Lacrosse clinics, the older the age group the more we want you to take.  See the chart below for the guideline.  But ideally all coaches would attend at least one of the short clinics and also one of the US Lacrosse clinics.

There are also some US Lacrosse Online courses that you can take - CCYL will reimburse you for these as well.

And finally there is the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) online course that you can take.  Its easy to do, CCYL will reimburse you for this and I ask that every coach do this.  Its an exceptional course and will probably change the way you think about motivating and interacting with players.  It helped me a great deal.

US Lacrosse Clinics
There are two US Lacrosse clinics coming up on March 6, March 12 and March 26.  You can register for these Level 1 clinics at the Level 1 US Lacrosse clinic site.  If you do elect to attend one of these clinics, pay for the clinic and then submit your receipt to Rob O'Neil who will reimburse you for the cost.  You might also check around with the other coaches who might be attending one of these clinics and you could try to carpool.

There is also a US Lacrosse evel 2 clinic on March 13 and March 27 for those of you who have already attended the Level 1 clinic.  I'm attending the March 27 Level 2 if anyone else is interested in carpooling.....

CCYL Coach Blue Book is Online
If you are a coach, we have put some useful material online for your reference.  Please visit the CCYL site to download the CCYL Coaches Blue Book.  This has a number of sections that provide reference and instruction on the various technical aspects for coaching girls lacrosse.  Useful for both new and experienced coaches.  It has lots of information including examples of drills for the various technical aspects of the game.

You will also find a link to several drills prepared by Scott Biron and Leslie Frank and a brief primer for the new Girls Lacrosse Coach (especially for Dads who are learning the girls game).
