CLYFL CHEERLEADING GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE 2017 SEASON

Cheerleading is very popular and fast growing sport for children. Cheerleading is an activity that uses organized routines made up of elements from dance and gymnastics.

CLYFL cheerleading provides cheer and dance instruction as well as performance opportunities for children ages 4 thru 14, whether first time cheerleaders or seasoned veterans.  Our program is structured to progress at each level so that the cheerleaders are prepared for High School try-outs. In addition to cheering, the cheerleaders are taught to develop self-confidence, how to be a productive team member, the basics of football and most of all, how to have fun!

PLACEMENT

  1. CLYFL cheerleading does not have try-outs or cuts. All cheerleaders will be placed on a squad until all squads have reached their maximum number of cheerleaders.

  2. Due to safety reasons we do not move cheerleaders out of their age group. All placement decisions will be made on a case by case basis and we offer no guarantees that any request will be fulfilled.

  3. Being on a squad with those closer to their own age, will allow the cheerleaders to learn more at an appropriate pace and gives them the opportunity to bond with cheerleaders their own age. While we do understand the desire/need for sibling/famiy requests (siblings/cousins playing/cheering together) due to the age restrictions of the leagues that may not be possible.

UNIFORMS

CLYFL cheerleading provides uniforms (shell & skirt) and poms to all participating cheerleaders which are returned at the end of the season.  Cheerleaders and parents must sign a form recognizing responsibility, care and return of the uniform BEFORE the uniform is supplied. In addition to uniforms, this year CLYFL will be providing Warm-Ups and bloomers (Spanks).

There are additional uniform requirements which are to be provided by the parents.

  • Hair bow (Will be chosen by the Coach)
  • Socks
  • White sneakers

The following items may be requested by the coach to be purchased:

  • Cheer Body Suit (Chosen by the Coach and ordered through league sales vendors)

  • Cheer Bag

  • Colored Socks

The coaches will determine which items are needed and the colors for each team.

There will be no display of cheerleaders names on anything used for cheering this includes but is not limited to:  uniforms, sweat jacket or pants, hair ribbons, crates, buckets, bags used to carry cheer stuff, water bottles, banners or megaphones.

PRACTICE

1st Week of Practice (Monday-Thursday only)

The first three (3) days of the season will be used as a meet and greet and to individually fit each cheerleader with their uniforms and any other league provided items as well as cover the basics of cheerleading such as motions and jumps.

           A-C League:    6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

2nd-3rd Week of Practice (Monday-Thursday only)

Opening Ceremony Practices

           D League:       6:30 p.m. – 8:00p.m.

           A-C League:    6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

The first 3 weeks of practice are VERY IMPORTANT. Please make sure that your cheerleader is able to attend. They will be learning the cheer and dance routines for the Opening Ceremony along with sideline cheers that they will use throughout the season.

GAMES

We cannot overemphasize the importance of participating in games.  The majority of stunts and dance routines require ALL cheerleaders be included in order to be performed properly.  Each girl plays a vital role in the squad′s presentation so it is important to be in attendance at all games which are held on Saturday and perhaps one game during the week.

VOLUNTEERS

CLYFL is a non-profit organization run solely by volunteers; most with their own children are in our football and/or cheer program.  We do not compensate any of our volunteers, including coaches, board members and team moms, yet they and many others devote a substantial amount of their time and energy to support our youth sports program.  Without volunteers, we would not have a program for our children.

In order for the league to run smoothly, the participation of the parents is crucial.  So please, donate your time to the league and help us make this a better and stronger organization.  We could always use Cheerleading Coaches for all age groups.

NOTE:  Parents will be asked to volunteer for one 2-3 hour shift at the concession stand during the season. It is an easy job and is actually a lot of fun!  Watch out for more information from your child′s coach.
