Training League for 5 and 6 year olds (D.O.B. between 5/1/2011 - 12/31/2013)
All children born between 5/1/2011 and 12/31/2013 will be assigned to the Training League. Focus will be on developing basic skills and baseball knowledge using softer baseballs. The Training League utilizes a mixture of T-ball and coach pitch depending on the skill level of each individual player. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches at this age level to provide a more comfortable environment for their young child.
Please note buddy requests and any prior playing experience on the registration. Players will be assigned to teams utilizing elementary school assignments and buddy requests. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.
Time commitment consists of 1 practice per week on a weekday and 1 game each Saturday afternoon. There will be two additional games played on Sunday afternoons - one in May and one in early June. The season will begin the week of April 23rd and conclude on June 9th.
Instructional League for 7 and 8 year olds (age as of 4/30/2018)
All 7 and 8 year olds will be assigned to the Instructional League. The Instructional League is machine pitch using regular baseballs.
Players will be assigned to teams utilizing school and buddy request. Please note buddy requests on registration. We will do our best to accommodate all requests, but our goal is to balance the skill level on all teams as much as possible.
Time commitment consists of 1 practice per week in April. After the season starts in May, there will be 1 practice on weekdays and 1 to 2 games on weekends. All teams make the playoffs.
Minor League for 9 and 10 year olds (age as of 4/30/2018)*
All 9 and 10 year olds will be required to attend a skills assessment. For 9 year olds, the skills assessment will be used to help us balance the Minor League teams by skill level, along with school and 2017 team (where applicable). Buddy requests are not accepted. For 10 year olds, the skills assessment will be used to determine whether their skills are better suited for the Majors or Minors. Highly skilled 8 year olds can request to be evaluated for Minor League consideration. No players under the age of "baseball 8" will be considered for Minors.
Minor League is played on the 46/60 diamond and will have 2 practices per week in April, and 1 practice and 2 or 3 games per week in May and June. All teams make the playoffs in Minors.
* While most Minor League participants are 9 or 10 years old, Minors also consists of highly skilled 8 year olds and 11 and 12 year olds deemed not ready for Major League level play.
Major League for 11 and 12 year olds (age as of 4/30/2018)*
All 11 and 12 year olds who are not already assigned to a Major league team are assessed and assigned to either the Major League or Minor League based on the results of the assessment. For 2018, the number of 10 year olds that will be assigned to the Majors could be limited based on overall registration numbers. No players under the age of "Baseball 10" will be considered for Majors.
Players will be called with Team assignment by 3/20 for Majors and 3/27 for Minors.
Major League plays on a 50/70 diamond at Wolcott and Beachland Parks. Major League will have 3 practices per week in April, 1 practice and 2 or 3 games per week in May and June. All teams make the playoffs in Majors.
* Most Major League participants are 11 or 12 years old. Majors also consists of highly skilled 10 year olds. While the WHYBL board attempts to place as many 11 and 12 year olds in the Majors as possible, the advanced skills required at the Major League level may dictate that some 11 and 12 year old players would be more comfortable playing at the Minor League level. All players will be placed in the division deemed most appropriate. No players will be "cut".
The season will end by June 17 for all leagues unless inclement weather dictates otherwise.
