Summer Wood Bat Season 2018
Our Wood Bat League continues to grow and flourish. The league attracts a wide range of active players - high school seniors thru 29 years old - resulting in very competitive level of play. This isn't your company softball team.
Here are the plans for this summer.
After 43 years we have moved from Dunwoody Park to our new home at Peachtree Charter Middle School (PCMS) where we have two artificial turf fields. Referred to by their relative locations, our East Field at 355' to center is larger than our old Upper Field at 330'. The West Field is smaller at 315' all around but has an 8' fence, making it more challenging even for power hitters. (Note: Only the East Field is operational at this time. We will keep you posted on progress as well as any plans we make for a temporary subsititue. Click here for a map.
Each team in the the Summer Wood Bat League plays one game during the week and one on Sundays. Weekday games begin at 7:30 pm or 8 pm to allow for ease in scheduling and so players can better plan their work and/or summer school schedules.
Players who graduated from high school beginning in 2007 through rising high school seniors (Class of 2019) are eligible to play. You may not be older than 30 years old when the season ends.
We encourage complete teams to register as a team. The fee to register a team is $1,800. The League will place individual players on existing teams or form additional teams if there are enough individual players. The goal is to play baseball. The League considers 12-14 to be an ideal number of players per team, depending on team member work schedules. You can register your team by clicking here.
We use wooden/composite wooden bats which are provided by the League. Participants can use their own wooden bats at their own risk for breakage. High school rules, with some modifications, are used. Contact is to be avoided when ever possible.
Special Note on the new fields: No metal cleats are allowed. Players must use turf (synthetic) cleats, or tennis shoes (not recommended). Also, no gum, seeds, or unshelled peanuts (no shells) in the Park, not just in the dugout or at the field.
All players will conduct themselves appropriately at all times, on or off the field. Players that fail to do so may be asked to leave the league or, if their behavior warrants it, reported to the City of Dunwoody police.
There will be absolutely no drinking alcohol, smoking or illegal substance use permitted by any player, coach or other team member at the park. Illegal activity will be reported to the City of Dunwoody police.
Individual player registration is $175, payable when you register. Team fees are $1,800. This includes liability insurance, lights, umpires, field preparation, balls, wooden/composite bats, helmets, catcher’s gear, etc. The league will provide shirts and hats for up to 14 players/team. Teams who provide their own uniforms will receive a $300 credit. Uniforms and team names must be approved in advance of the season by the Summer League Director.
The League will assign players who are not part of a pre-formed team to a team that needs players. If there are enough players without a team, the League will form a team of such players. If you are interested please send an email to Jerry Weiner, Summer League Director, email@example.com. Include your phone number and a brief description of your recent baseball activity.
