2015 Spring Boys Lacrosse

The boys program is for grades 1 – 8 and begins the last week of March and ends June 8th.  Lacrosse commitment changes as you get into the older ages.  We know kids want to try and play 2 sports in the spring and it is very doable through 5th grade.  It is far more difficult in 6th-8th as we get into Saturday games, travel to south shore 1 or 2x per season and attending the UMASS tournament.  The details below should help decide how the spring schedule looks for the lacrosse program.

Our lacrosse development program participates in the Town Pride League (TPL) for grades 3 – 8.  Grades 1 and 2 are in town skills and drills plus some chumash games.  Our goal for all ages is to have fun, master the fundamentals over time, continually increase LaxIQ along with the passion for the game.

TPL has coordinated with multiple towns of similar styles on how to teach and grow lacrosse at the youth level.  Teams are broken into a North and South divisions:

Grades 1 and 2

  • 1 practice per week at CCHS grass field – most likely Fridays for 1 hour
  • Focus is on learning on to throw, scoop and catch along with playing safe
  • Games at practice are called chumash – it is similar to 3 v 3 basketball
    • Potentially a coach may organize a chumash scrimmage with a touching town like L-S or A-B
  • We do not introduce goalies at this age group
  • Volunteer parents are our coaches
  • Season is from April 6 – June 6

Grades 3 and 4

  • GAMES are on SUNDAYS – time fluctuates and decided by the host team
  • Games are small ball – 7 v 7.  6 field players and a goalie
  • 2 practices per week for 90 minutes at Sanborn (home games at Sanborn too)
  • Games will only be against North teams so no travel to South shore at this age group.
  • Games are 2 20 minute halves of running times.  Usually play 3 or 4 of these quick games per game day

Grade 5

  • GAMES are on SUNDAYS – time fluctuates and decided by the host team
  • Games are full field – 10 v 10.  9 field players and a goalie
  • Teams are broken into A and B teams in the TPL League
  • Player evaluation during the winter along with last year coach evaluation will determine team break out
  • 2 practices per week for 90 minutes (location and dates TBD)
  • Most games against North teams however there may be 1 trip to South shore location
  • Games are just under an hour long with 2 referee’s and usually play 2 games at that location

Grades 6 - 8

  • GAMES are on SATURDAY – time fluctuates and decided by the host team
  • Games are full field – 10 v 10.  9 field players and a goalie
  • Teams are broken into A and B teams in the TPL League
  • Player evaluation during the winter along with last year coach evaluation will determine team break out
  • 2 practices per week for 90 minutes (location and dates TBD)
  • Most games against North teams however there may be 1 trip to South shore location
  • Games are just under an hour long with 2 referee’s and usually play 2 games at that location
  • Both A and B teams attend UMASS tournament on May 2nd – plan on being there all day
    • This is a fun and entertaining day for CC Youth lax

Grade 8 players have the option to go to NYC and attend school, participate in practice then join the Harlem Lacrosse team versus Rye NY.  A great event that is in its 5th year for CC lax players.  This is an optional event and additional cost.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

CCYL depends upon dedicated volunteers to be successful.  We need volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, team statisticians and others to help us manage our growing program.  You need not have lacrosse experience to volunteer.  Please let us know if you are able to assist - you will be given this option in the registration process.  Otherwise, please feel free to contact the CCYL Boys Director Brian Stout at   to volunteer.
