Testing

GSC has an excellent record of preparing students to take many standardized exams.

Vergleichsarbeit

GSC offers the level A-1/2 Vergleichsarbeit (international exam).

AATG

The national American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) exam provides a means to compare the achievements of GSC students with German high school students nationwide.  GSC administers the tests at levels 2-4.  Test results are sent to the parents for inclusion in the permanent record of the students’ day schools.

SAT II Subject Test (German)

GSC prepares its students for the SAT II subject test in German, which is typically taken late in the junior year of high school.

College Board Advanced Placement (AP) German Exam

GSC prepares its students for the German AP exam.  This exam is important for college admission, and some schools award credits for a sufficiently high score.  Most selective colleges expect students to take up to three AP courses.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz A, B, C

The Sprachdiplom I (B1) and II (C1) examinations test students on their mastery of spoken and written German as well as on German culture, history, and literature.  Students taking the B1 exam are expected to have roughly 10 years of German instruction, and students taking the C1 exam are expected to have roughly 12 years.  Passing the B1 exam satisfies the German language requirement for matriculation at a Studienkolleg (pre-university study), while the C1 exam satisfies the language requirement for a German university.

These are very prestigious examinations.  In the US they are only administered by a few German day schools and private German language schools.  GSC was the first school in the US to be authorized by the German school authorities in Bonn (Kultusministerkonferenz) to give these examinations.
