! TOTAL SOCCER Fitness & Training, LLC, will conduct a “Speed, Agility & Quickness for Soccer” Winter Training Program for
players ages 7-14 on Mondays, beginning January 6, at the Community Center in Bucks Mill Park. The 8-Session program will run on
Mondays and will feature two time slots: 4:30--5:30 pm and 5:45--6:45 pm.
Dates of training are: January 6, 13, 20 and 27, and February 3, 10, 17 and 24. The 8-Session Program will be conducted by Total
Soccer Fitness & Training Owner & Director Tom DeNigris, a certified Speed, Agility & Quickness Trainer; and Total Soccer Fitness &
Training Technical Director Art Collier, Boys Soccer Coach at Colts Neck High School.
Emphasis of the Soccer-Specific program will be speed with and without the ball.
Because more than 90 percent of a game of soccer is played without individual possession of the ball, players will be taught Proper
Running Mechanics to improve their Speed (via sprinting drills), Agility (the ability to change direction) and Quickness (short speed
movements, both linear and lateral). Some of the non-ball soccer-specific concepts to be covered will be First-Step Quickness, changing pace
and direction, cutting and turning.
Speed with the ball -- “Technical Speed” -- will be a main feature of the program as well with the emphasis on ball control --
dribbling (speed dribbling, dribbling moves), striking the ball (with all surfaces of the foot), passing with accuracy, receiving and trapping the
ball properly, learning to play one- and two-touch soccer.
The program will always begin with a Warm-Up Phase, which will include the use of speed ladders, rings, hoops and hurdles. Players
will also learn the positive effects of dynamic movement and stretch routines. The Warmup Phase will lead into the main phase of the program
-- the Speed, Agility & Quickness Phase. This phase will always feature a specific concept on SAQ with and without the ball. The Technical
Speed Phase follows. Each session will conclude with a Cool-Down Phase.
