US Lacrosse Junior Coaching Certification

Souhegan Valley Lacrosse wants to thank all of our Boy and Girls from the Milford and Souhegan HS Varsity Lacrosse team who continue to utilize volunteer time to assit coaches and players during Winter Skills, Spring Sessions along with our Learn to Play program. You play a critical role in the success of our program and players at all ages just starting out.  You are role models for these players. The High School players are our future coaches in for the SVL Club and into the High Schools and Colleges.  To support these players future in lacrosse, we would like to recommend for those players under 18 and playing Varsity High School Lacrosse that are interested in Coaching with SVL this winter to take the US Lacrosse Junior Certification Program.

The US Lacrosse Junior Certification Program is designed to prepare the young coach for the unique challenges her or she may face. It will equip coaches with both the technical and tactical knowledge of the game necessary to think critically and make educated coaching decisions.

In order to be a certified as Junior Women’s or Men’s Level 1 Coach, the coach must be at least 14 years of age. The certification is good through the coach’s 18th birthday, when, if they want to remain certified, they will need to complete a background check through the National Center for Safety Initiatives, US Lacrosse’s national service provider for background checks.

For Junior Women’s Level 1 Certification, a coach must complete:

  1. US Lacrosse Coach Membership
  2. Women’s Level 1 Online course
  3. Women’s Level 1 Instructional clinic
  4. Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach I Workshop
  5. Submit a coaching philosophy

For Junior Men’s Level 1 Certification, a coach must complete:

  1. US Lacrosse Coach Membership
  2. Men’s Level 1 Online course
  3. Men’s Level 1 Instructional clinic
  4. Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach I Workshop
  5. How to Make Contact Tutorial
  6. Submit a coaching philosophy

Junior certifications can take up to three weeks for processing. Please first submit the form below, and then email any related documentation to  . Your credentials will be updated under “my certifications” in your account online after reviewing your application. If we have questions, we will reach out via email.

Please contact SVL President Michael Hannon for more information.  We will be supporting a limited number of students with scholarships to get certified that will be working with SVL this winter while also getting HS Volunteer hours fulfulled.   You are our future and we want to help foster your love for the game.

Thank you,

Mike Hannon

Parents Agreement with SVL

Parents Agreement with SVL

Your family and your child's participation and membership in SVL are contingent on adhering to the following policy of Souhegan Valley Lacrosse.  You agree to read and comply with the terms of this Parent Contract and to follow the standards listed below.

  • I understand that it is club policy to offer and attempt equal playing time to all players regardless of ability.
  • I will remain in the spectator area during competitions, which is on the opposite side of the field from the team benches.
  • I will “Honor the Game.” I will show respect for all involved with the game including coaches, players, opponents, opposing fans, table crew, and officials.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well- being of my child and all players ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • If capable, I will help when asked to by a coach or official.
  • I will support coaches and officials working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience.
  • I understand that games can be exciting for my child as he/she deals with the fast paced action of the game, responds to opponents, referees, teammates, and listens to coaches. I will not yell out instructions. I will let the coaches do the coaching.
  • During the game I will make only sportsmanlike comments that encourage my child and other players on both teams.
  • I will not be confrontational with the officials or coaches during or after the game, either on the field or in the immediate vicinity (such as the parking lot).
  • Should I have any concerns or issues with the coaches or officials I will relay these to the Boys/Girls VP or President of Souhegan Valley Lacrosse and not with the coaching staff or officials.
